How many Gemcutter's Prism do you have? Is it supposed to be so super-rare?
A GCP is much more useful than an arbitrary gem with quality because there's no chance it's useless - if you have a 12% quality fireball, then a 5% dropping does (almost) nothing for you. a GCP is always an upgrade (unless you have a 20% quality gem of each type, in which case a: you can trade it and b: you couldn't complain they were too rare).
Each and every Gemcutter's Prism you find is a guaranteed permanent improvement to not only your character, but to every character you have, or make from then on which could use the skill you improve, with no downside or chance of failure. That is why they are, and have to be, very rare. Also please keep in mind GCPs are not in any way necessary - you can complete the game with 0% quality gems. "As an aside, and I don't mean this as a dig at you or anything, I don't think "300 character levels" isn't really a useful measure of anything - 300 characters leveled once is less time and drops than your 7 to 40ish, which is less time and drops than 3 characters to 100. Saying you got 7 characters to level 40 tells us something, but "300 character levels" doesn't really. Last edited by Mark_GGG#0000 on Jul 4, 2012, 8:19:19 PM

I have a level 26 and like 3 level 15's
I have already found like 3 GCP I have not used them yet Im doing ok Keep em rare I say. Giving everything to everyone on lets say more of a silver platter just makes the game easier and will have less replayabiltiy IMHO Tu Meke GGG

Mark_GGG: actually, all my gems are 0% quality. True, I have no issue with them. I will probably use my GCPs only if/when I encounter an extreme need to upgrade a certain gem.
I always understood that GCPs are more useful than a gem, of course. But I would still advocate an increase in their drop rate because the current rate is really boring. You're right that 300 char levels don't mean much. But ~200 hours of game, do. Maybe I just had a lot of bad luck or low magic find. I'm not nuts about magic find as I prefer to get my ass as fast as possible to level 60+ ::- D, so I prefer to use items which give damage/life rather than MF. This may also be a problem with my strategy, but the current drop rate of GCP really hurts me. Anyway, this is just MY opinion and it's not even something I am so crazy about ::- D. As far as I see, most community members think the drop rate is fine, so I'll just drop it then ::- ). My article promoting PoE:

" Item quantity, however, does effect orb drops. I confirmed that I am still in HC league. Then I died.

GCP are for finalizing your characters. with 100 levels to go you'll have plenty of time to upgrade all of your skills to +20%.
... nothing

Dudes. Everyone who hasn't found a Zod rune in Diablo 2 shouldn't complain about rarity of gemcutters.
In my 10 years of D2 playing I haven't found one fucking Zod rune. And I already found several gemcutters. Last edited by KenshiD#1543 on Jul 5, 2012, 5:09:20 AM

" Gemcutter is more like comparableto pul-ist than zod. If you want to find "zod", try getting Mirror of Kalandra. I confirmed that I am still in HC league. Then I died.
