How many Gemcutter's Prism do you have? Is it supposed to be so super-rare?

A GCP is much more useful than an arbitrary gem with quality because there's no chance it's useless - if you have a 12% quality fireball, then a 5% dropping does (almost) nothing for you. a GCP is always an upgrade (unless you have a 20% quality gem of each type, in which case a: you can trade it and b: you couldn't complain they were too rare).

Each and every Gemcutter's Prism you find is a guaranteed permanent improvement to not only your character, but to every character you have, or make from then on which could use the skill you improve, with no downside or chance of failure.

That is why they are, and have to be, very rare.

Also please keep in mind GCPs are not in any way necessary - you can complete the game with 0% quality gems.

As an aside, and I don't mean this as a dig at you or anything, I don't think "300 character levels" isn't really a useful measure of anything - 300 characters leveled once is less time and drops than your 7 to 40ish, which is less time and drops than 3 characters to 100.
Saying you got 7 characters to level 40 tells us something, but "300 character levels" doesn't really.

To be fair most gems are not even worth the trouble it is to use a GCP on them the "bonus" is t even worth it.

Welllll, I see his intended point.

While I acknowledge you're discrediting that "300 character levels" isn't exactly the same as saying something like "I got a character to level 300," obviously because earlier levels go by much quicker and therefore take in much less drops... I believe his point in wording it this way is because there comes a point in time in this game where you outlevel all of your zones, which then reduces your orb drop rates by a large amount.

So, in a SENSE, saying "300 character levels" can actually mean a bit more than saying "character to level 300".

Ya dig?
