PoE 1 Xbox servers are restarting in: .
They should be back up in approximately .Annual reminder that XP loss on death is bad design.
" 50% at 99 is NOT 25 maps, I don't even get 1% per map at that level. A full lvl83 sanctum tome barely gives 2% exp at lvl99. Not everyone is running insane strats on their maps, I just alch&go and chill, I would like to keep all my exp and passively get to high levels. It won't break the game, and nobody cares about the ladder on sc trade anyways since on day 1 the first lvl100 is already achieved through party play shenanigans. And until they delete exp loss, I will keep giving my divines to 5-way legion rota farmers or just living in Sanctum where its nice and safe with 0 risk of dying. Because this is what the exp loss teaches people, this is what the game wants you to do. Avoid all risk until leveling up if you need that skill point. Or just pay someone for an exp carry and buy your way to lvl100. Such an achievement. Last edited by Toforto#2372 on Nov 14, 2025, 6:49:52 PM

The death penalty exists so players don’t endlessly corpse-run their way to level 100. It’s a fair reminder that defensive layers still matter, and if you’re dying often enough to watch your XP bar hemorrhage, that’s the game politely informing you that your character is in desperate need of upgrades.
If I had, let's say, a 120 divine budget, for a single character of choice in a league like this, I’d tune my build into absolute, surgical perfection, crushing all content with effortless disdain, spitting uber boss fights back into their smug faces, laughing at their embarrassing performance, and strolling to level 100 without breaking so much as a pixel of sweat. But thinking about it, even before a 120 divine investment, a handful of decent, well crafted or handpicked items already do the job, you don’t have to worry about deaths, about failing uber fights, or about lacking damage. And if the character does happen to die because of human error, and I’m not already level 100, I just glance at the XP bar, laugh hard, run a few maps, and watch it climb again in no time, instead of losing my mind over a tiny, meaningless setback. " Playing games already devours time you could be spending on literally anything else, assuming you wanted to be productive, of course. You could work to make money and treat yourself to nice things, like hardware that doesn’t choke the moment a game demands more power, so we don’t have to complain about performance the second a old setup falters. But looking at other ARPGs, there isn’t a single one without a death penalty, so it’s not exactly a special feature of Path of Exile. Diablo makes you bleed durability, Last Epoch nukes your entire map loot and reward, Grim Dawn mirrors PoE’s rules, and others make you pay dearly just to repair your gear. The bigger picture is clear, death penalties are just part of the genre. Hoping for an ARPG with zero consequences for failure is wishful thinking at best, something that will never happen, no matter how loudly we protest. The only way to escape a death penalty is... well, to stop dying. There are plenty of ways to get there, but if the game hasn’t already hammered that lesson into someones head, after countless deaths, I’m not sure what else will. Each player figures it out for themselves eventually. " Did you know there’s more to the game than alc & go T16 maps, or potentially even worse, orb of transmutation and go? I hope you do. " Not every build can do delirious maps. Stuff gets way too tanky and its boring to run them. Also I hate abyss, I always block it as early as I can on my atlas tree every league lol For the average player, dying at a high level means like 50 alch&go maps of exp are lost. " Except for the fact that I can literally corpse-rush every pinnacle and uber boss in this game. I insta-phase them, die,go in and stay in my 1 minute immunity buff until they stop doing things, repeat until I win. As long as the immunity phases are a smaller number than my portals, its a guaranteed kill. This is how I kill Ziggurat map boss every league, even with Stability scarabs and bisection making the map easier. I kill normal quest exarch and uber exarch in the same way, if I get ball phase I instantly run into a ball intentionally and die, re-enter and afk while invulnerable while waiting for exarch to finish his phase. Playing a tanky build in SC is literally pointless and boring when you can just play a build that deletes a boss in 1 second. So defensive layers don't mean anything in SC Trade. I can die hundreds of times and still clear all the content in the game lol Also, dying and losing exp is not the game telling you to "git gud", its the game deleting your time investment. I actually respect my own time, which is why I say that's bad game design. And there's nothing to improve with my build anyway, its absolutely perfect the way it is. I have all my bis gear, there's nothing else to buy. I'm gonna spend all my divines on stacked decks now because that's the only fun thing to do kek Last edited by Toforto#2372 on Nov 14, 2025, 7:23:25 PM

Tof, this is the behavior that makes the xp loss a requirement.

" But they disabled exp loss on bosses, which makes it even easier for me to corpse rush them. So that just doesn't make much sense does it? Then why is it required in maps, just to lose 10% of my exp bar to a random oneshot every day because? I really don't see a reason. |

They did that so people weren't banking xp till they leveled for bosses, since they wanted people to do them when they wanted too.
You ask for xp penalty to be removed now, when they do that. Then you ask, "why doesnt my character just start at level 80 if i did campaign before" Its always ask ask ask with your hand out. You can't just give everyone everything they want. You have to have a design philosophy about the game or it will just become diablo 4. League after league ggg is givine people "Qol" and all i see is people crying they want more on here league after league. It gets old. Meanwhile we cant get new melee skills because the animations are annoying to make. |

" Pretty much this. The game is already in a pretty generous state compared to what it used to be years or leagues ago, but some players still somehow expect even more handout changes even with the game being in one of the easiest states it has ever been. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

I disagree. I like the exploss. Yes it frustrates me, but it also forces me to choose, either exp or loot.
