Introducing the Trade-House Idea (Offline Trading)

Declining bids to unlock would be great. You should also be able to pull your bid then at any time to unlock the items.

The items I guess don't have to lock as long as all trades are updated if those items are removed from your possession.

I'm not sure how best to do that part... obviously you have to have an item in your possession to trade it, but where should it reside? If it moves out of your inventory how do you use it for multiple bids? How do you avoid people abusing the system for additional storage? Where does it go once the bid is over?

while there are some great ideas for enhancing an auction house, this still doesn't get around the idea of using currency (be it items or gold) to purchase things. what if you don't want to use currency to acquire an item, but wanted to just trade items? no one wants to sit and spam a chat channel (takes forever, limited options of people to trade with in that game, etc.), so what can we do to get around that?

my idea was, in addition to having an auction house, also have a trade house (where it's specifically item(s) for item(s) trading (not using currency items). you could post what you have and put up items what you're looking for, or just have players sent you offers. it could be organized based upon type of item (swords, axes, gloves, gauntlets, etc.)

My idea already allows players to trade any item for any other item via the auction house.

IMO, the most important part of any system that is designed to help trade is a searchable database of some sort. You can always negotiate a trade privately, the hard part is finding someone who has the item you're looking for.

Another idea, in the absence of an in-game trading/auction house is to extend the Forum Item Linking feature to allow to extract the properties of items that are linked to the trade forum, and make them searchable in a database.

So instead of reading 10000 "my storage clearout" threads, just use filters to find the item you're after in seconds.

I totally agree, the most important thing is that players can find what they are looking for, and can freely trade as they please.

The proposed Trade House idea does not limit players from trading how they please.

It simply adds options.

Also throwing this out there. When trading i would think it would be neat to see your shared stash and drag on drop items that make up your bid for the item. This feature would be neat for a phone app. Where it could be difficult to link items on the go.
