1.0.1 Patch Notes

Currently I run a lvl 1 CoDT with Enduring Cry, Molten Shell and Enfeeble and a lvl 9 CoDT with Immortal Call and Decoy totem. After checking the level requirements I believe I will feel the nerf, but it wont make the CoDT useless, however it will probably make Molten Shell useless.

Currently my gems are at lvl 17 (except enfeeble due to int requirement):
Enduring cry - 33 charges, 36 for lvl 20
Molten shell - 888 armor, 1058 for lvl 20
Immortal call - 0.56 s, 0.59 for lvl 20
Decoy totem - 32% life, 38% for lvl 20

If I want to keep the same lvl of CoDT gems, I will have to downscale the gems so:
Enduring cry - lvl 5, 17 charges, 49% less
Molten shell - lvl 7, 294 armor, 67% less
Immortal call - lvl 9, 0.48s, 14% less
Decoy totem - lvl 12, 22% life, 31% less

So Molten shell takes the biggest hit, and I don't think it will be worth keeping for 300 armor.

I will probably level up the lvl 1 CoDT gem to lvl 4, to get Enduring cry to lvl 7, 21 charge and Enfeeble at lvl 7. That would let me get Molten shell to lvl 9, 403 armor, but I think i'll ditch it for Summon skeletons as a one hit distraction instead.

So, it will be a hit to tanking, but it will still be worth running.
I don't see why you don't just have cast on damage taken take more damage to proc at lower levels.

Then as you level it up it takes less and less damage to proc (as well as reducing the penalty to damage like it currently does).

Because then it would be even more insanely powerful. As it was on 1.0.0, leveling it was a trade off. Less procs but more damage. Imagine a molten shell that does full damage applying every 2-3 hits...

Does anyone know if the level requirement on CwDT applies to support gems as well?
Like increased duration or increased AoE

agreed. Damage taken isn't that bad in normal/beginning cruel but when you first get to merciless, you really need all the defense you can get.

Empower/Enhance are both end game gems. Why can't Cast on Damage taken be one also?

The cast when damage take change is not the greatest. I have an idea for a more elegant change. At level 1 CwDT should cast when you take damage equal to 100% of your Life + ES (after all modifiers. EB, CI, ect) . As it levels to 20 it should get better and scale down to 25% of your total Life + ES. The Less Damage modifier could be removed to allow a better range of abilities as well.

It would still take hundreds of points of damage at lower levels and thousands of points at higher but there would be incentive to level it. Plus this way it scales for players with different levels of gear (read effective HP) and since it would only require you to drop to 75% hp at max level it would still be effective at casting your damage migration spells before you get to low while still not as effective as pre casting but only if once the gem has been leveled up.

this gem should be the opposite of now.lvl 1 you need more dmg to trigger and lvl 20 need less dmg (still more then lvl 1 currently).like that lvling it is actualy better.

I agree. It should be like a percentage of your health that gets lower as you level the gem.

The Cast On Damage Taken change seems very rushed and not that well thought out. It will break almost all CoDT+Molten shell builds but for most CoDT+curse builds they are almost unaffected. Also If someone has a 4link CoDT with 3 other level 19+ gems I doubt they can level CoDT fast enough to not break the build on patch day even if they played 24/7

Yep, thought about the same thing. They should've not rushed the changes at all. IMHO they should've left it as it is as people already started building everything around these gems. Maybe if they've thought more about the changes and changed it after the Nemesis/Domination ended and not now they wouldn't be getting this much negative feedback..

I think there might've been some better changes to this gem. One of those is giving back mana cast to skills supported by CoDT. Or say reduce the chance to cast to somewhat 70% and then include a rise in that chance when the skill is leveled. There could've been quite a few changes that would've not fucked it so much. And even your own video @ PoE build of the week S02E01 shows that you've had a vision of it being used when different damage is taken, but you surely had to understand that mostly everyone will use it at lvl 1?

I remember I asked you for something like this gem half a year ago, as I thought Enduring Cry / Molten Shell / Immortal Call were all underpowered. Thanks for making them balanced for a whole 2 weeks, while it took you 4 months (if not more) to buff HP.

Lesson: dont build around just released gems.
