Anyway, i ran my cyclone(fb+block/spellblock) char to merci Dominus. I facerolled him like usual even without cotd. But the gameplay just wasn't as smooth, not to mention there's always the risk of still geting 1 shot without enfeeble.

Yes i detest casting spells when i'm playing a mf*ing melee, it just slow down the gameplay killing all the action for me and sometimes it kills my char aswell if i cast during a fight, makes me feel like i'm a punching bag. If i wanted to play an rts i'd choose another game.

This will be offensive, but incase your skull is to thick to comprehend, we want fluid combat, not something that takes ages to do.

CoDT was a convenience for me like for many other people, some used it to faceroll stuff with spells linked and i don't mind.

But for defense purposes what you should atleast do is make Molten Shell and enduring cry instant cast and able to cast while moving or performing other action. And guess what, people will actually use them as a stand alone skill.

If you do that people won't care about CoDT and you'll be able to just put it on the backburner with all the other useless skills. But if you don't believe me, just make a tankish melee character and see for yourself how casting EC and MS gets tiring and keeps breaking the action.

I don't even care if a change like that would make ranged more powerful, but it would also mean that melee would be so much more fucking fun to play.


I was merely refering to the whine about the timing of the nerf *after* release. CoDT made melee chars much more fluent, no one would deny that. I believe it will still do that, after nerf - I also expect further balancing of the gem, there are basically 3 possibilities:
a) tweak the damage numbers on higher levels
b) make it percentage based (on life, es, or both)
c) set the level requirements of the gem higher (on levels >1)

All three would work I think.

EDIT: I highly doubt that CoDT was nerfed because of melee - as melee you basically copied the setups used in the Build Of The Week video, or a variation thereof. Which was clearly fine with GGG, else they would'nt have published the video.
It got overpowered very quickly when used with offensive spells and now the melees have to suffer for that.

In this camp as well. I will continue to use the CODT+EC+MS+Rejuv Totem combo despite the nerf just because it is such a tedious pita to constantly cast them individually. Changing the casting times to instant or near instant for these defensive spells would alleviate this to a degree and then I could see using them without CODT.

For me as a Melee is that cwdt a huge nerf. as a melee u cant cast ur def spells while getting hit, if i do that im instant dead. (Nemesis League)

Even pre buffing is useless...

and taken about ~2500 damage to make it procc.... totally useless..

i really dont get it... first u throw this gem into ur game. everyone loves it(especially melees), then u nerf hammer it like shit, till its dead? reminds of blizzard.

CwDT was NOT changed, becaus GGG thinks it was OP.

It was changed because, they don´t want to have gems or items which are part of EVERY build!

Everyone was using CwDT, and 99% in the same combo (Molten Shell, Enduring Cry, Devouring or Decoy Totem), maybe a second CwDT gem for curses, skeletons and what else...

It´s against GGG´s design to have gems which everyone uses, not matter what kind of build he or she goes for.

Now you all can be angry for GGG introducing CwDT the way it was in the first place, but the change was a totally right and comprehensible design choice.

I enjoyed the auto cast of CwDT as much as anyone else, but I TOTALLY understand GGG changing it. It´s bad for diversity. Everyone running around with endurance charges and molten shell not matter what build they are going for, is just wrong! Every gem should be a thought through choice!

So please stop all that immature hating and bashing, just because you have to rethink your build. There will be many many changes which will change the way the game works in the future, which by the way is what makes a game fun in the long term!

Make instan cast skills such as curses, molten shell and enduring, etc. Problem solved, delete useless gem.

Really? ok lets nerf reduced mana, Blood magic, Faster attacks, Faster casting, and i can go on with gems that are a must for all the build in this game
