Your League ideas

I agree, restricting things to prevent cheating isn't a good idea. I mean what if I work all week and then have the weekend off with like 12 hours a day to play because nothing is planned and the wife is off with her mother doing something. Does that mean I can play the league for only 3 hours and then it boots me? Meanwhile other people have had a good 3 hours every day during the week that I haven't had.

There are just too many exceptions that make restricting the players a bad idea.
Yes. If there's possiblity you'll have more than 3 hours to play per day, and you don't want to be booted at the begging of 4th hour, don't start in 3 hours only league. As easy as that.

There will be plenty of leagues for your kind. I demand one for mine. DO NOT ruin our fun when your own is already guaranteed!

Sounds like a waste of a server. With people Only being able to play for 3 hours the server would be a ghost town. Remember its a multiplayer game.

The idea of a time-limited league is definitely interesting.

What gives you an impression that normal leagues won't have "ghost town" look? It seems your terms ... are NOT acceptable! No, wait, that's Baal nasty speach.

It seems to me you haven't fully understood everything written by Devs, on their Diary page - check here > http://pathofexile.com/news/2010-11-29/dev-diary4

You can restrict log on times to keep areas more populated. All the servers are regional so any individual server wouldn't span very many timezones. The North American server population largely lives within four timezones so you could restrict log on times to a six hour period in the evening and not have to worry about people being unable to play because of a weird timeslot. This wouldn't really restrict the players (remember this league is for players who have jobs during the day anyway) and it would help to ensure that no one logs onto a ghost town because they can't just decide to play at 4 in the morning.

The time limit doesn't have to be a hard time limit either. At the time limit, a series of penalties begin to kick in making the game more and more difficult to play. After about 20-30 minutes, the penalties will have gotten so bad that the game becomes literally unplayable. If you die in overtime, the league automatically drops you for the day. Of course the next time you log on the penalties will start kicking in that much sooner too. If you overplay 15 minutes one day, the next day the penalties will start 15 minutes sooner. On the other hand, if you leave the game early then those extra minutes can roll over to the next day. Roll overs are limited to an hour so if you don't play one day then the next day you'll only get one hour extra. Roll over minutes (+ or -) only apply to the next day so you can't accumulate a week's worth of roll over minutes.

The point here is that if you're close to finishing something at the time limit then you can hurry up and finish it (to a point). At the same time, players aren't penalized for staying within the time limit and ending their game a few minutes early because they can use those minutes the next day. Finally, if you can't play at all one day then you're given a significant amount of time to catch up the next day.

Players would need some sort of game clock at the top of the screen to see how much time they have left and plan accordingly.

I guess it is an interesting Idea. Although it would end up behind far from casual.

Would be pretty fun after playing normal league lots then jumping on that league.Leveling up your char as fast as possible in the 3 hour time frame per day. Would lead to some interesting pvp.

Another league idea would be....:

The player has 3 lives. The player gains one life every day. When the player loses all of his lives he must wait for a life to regen before he can play again. Like a soft hardcore mode : )

Ps. I think Tormenta need to take a chill pill. Too mad.

Hey, some of your posts sound quite mad to me too! But hey hey, it's the right time to go mad - once base is set in stone, going mad about it is usualy waste of time.

@ tpapp157 ideas:

Some zones / players would be affected very badly if access to server is also restricted to specific hours of the day. The idea of unplayed hours accumulating is GREAT - it's definitely more satisfying approach than hard limiting gameplay to few hours per day! But why restrict unplayed hours roll over to next day only? It would be better if FruitLord and similar players can have their "wife is off with her mother doing something" 12+ hours weekend sessions - heck, why not even 24+ hours ones?

The saving up hours kills your league idea instantly =_=. most people wont play every day so they will end up saving mass amount of hours and playing none stop from a week onwards. What would stop a hardcore playing creating a character and walking off for a week then coming back and starting his pro grind.

In terms of in-game achievements, there's not much difference playing 3 hours * 8 days and 24 hours * 1 day. However, there's a big difference playing 3 hours * 8 days and 12 ~ 24 hours * 8 days.

Differences within a league would still exist because not everyone will use up hours the same way - some probably won't use up all available hours at all.

EDIT:

Thinking more on a subject, how about setting time-limited league so that:

1. there is no cap on hours accumulation and
2. new characters start with as many hours as if they are created on league start.

So, if league started on 01. January and someone makes new character on 30. January, that character starts with 30 * 3 hours = 90 hours in it's "hours pool". Those 90 hours can be used up in any way, including non-stop playing. Once they are used up, character gets 3 hours more every day - the same as all other characters, including "unborn" ones.

If nothing else, such approach would help with problem new players face in 24/7 games - little chance to catch-up with those that started earlier, especially if those played extenssively and / or shared account and are still doing it.
