[3.24] Frostbolt/Ice Nova Hierophant | 100m DPS | All Content
" It isn't the tankiest or the fastest build in the game, but it can do everything in the game pretty well. Plus its fun to play. |
|
After playing with an Ice Shot build where I pretty much sinked all the currency I made up with playing this build, I appreciated how good this build was. Not getting one shot from every single boss encounter(yes Metamorphs too) and being able to stomp through every end game content including LVL8 Deathless Sirus and Deathless Uber elder feels good. AND you dont even have to spend crazy amounts to achieve this.
Definetly try it out if you have it in mind. |

Okay I think I found the perfect Glorious Vanity Seed (3691) for this build. Just wanted to share so you could watch out for it in trade:

Its no big deal if i don't put a less duration gem into a gear with crafted cat aspect, yes? Just crafted a good elusive tailwind boots without suffix.

I'm not much of a theorycrafter. But using with an ice bite gem and rotgut feels a lot better than a 5 link pledge.
Can anybody prove or disprove my feeling with math? Obviously Pledge would be better on a per cast basis. But Taryn's shiver feels better if calculated per click. Last edited by papakapp on Jan 1, 2020, 10:01:48 AM

" Taryn's shiver probably feels better because it has 20% cast speed. There is no feeling in math calculation btw. Also, what is the difference of "per cast" and "per click", if all our clicks are casts? I don't quite get your point. While you lose damage per ice nova (14% for my build right now) with pledge compared to taryn's, you gain 4 Ice Novas instead of 2 per cast, which effectively doubles the damage, if your positioning is good. So with switching from the shiver to the pledge you gain 72% overall dps, which is a huge amount: 1*0,86*2 = 1,72 Also Ice Bite is much worse compared to the supports suggested by this guide. Crafted this... wish the life roll was just a little bit better..... |

" With greater spell echo plus spell echo you get 4 casts per click. With just spell echo you get 2 casts per click But as you know, casting ice nova on frostbolt interrupts the cast animation and you can re-cast (re-click) before the second cast executes. So, to borrow from 2d fighter lingo, socketing spell echo allows you to interrupt. Every click when frostbolt is on screen can interrupt the second cast. You lose a lot of mobility. Because with Pledge you can run around while all four casts are executing. But it looks like the damage output is largely based on the speed that you can click your mouse if you wanna stand in one place. So: with Pledge, click once and run around while 4 casts execute. With Taruyn's you can click 8 times in the same amount of time, but you're stuck in one place. But yeah, even if I'm right then if I had enough cast speed with a Pledge that I couldn't click (cast) any faster... then there would be no reason to be getting my cast speed from rotgut (with ice bite to build charges) and a Taryn's Shiver ...I think? | |
Picking this up as my second project build of the league - starting gear I've invested in so far:
Testing out Wise Oak over Basalt currently just to see how it feels. Obviously levels+gem levels are a priority. Assuming I'm not going Farruls (though if anyone could point me to the write up on that it'd help, trawled through comments but couldn't find it). Next upgrades are: Jewels (Including corrupted blood) Watcher's Eye Once I have all that I might liquidate some of this stuff (which should let me pick up the Farruls) and start looking towards that. Any feedback on the starter gear I have / plans for upgrades welcome. Belt and helm are self-crafted so may look at upgrades on those Crafting Consortium - The Igloo Mirror Shop https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3283615 Last edited by GrandpaPenguin on Jan 1, 2020, 11:54:41 AM

" I think you don't understand how this build works at all. First of all you get frenzy charges in this build as well with cold snap, at least on mapping and bosses with adds. Rotgut gives you onslaught for frenzy charges, which you can get on a jewel as well. Furthermore, you can just HOLD the ice nova button while your frostbolts are flying, you don't have to click like a maniac. That way you get dozens of ice nova explosions per second. You just hold the button until things are dead or you need to cast new frostbolts. That's why it is not as complicated as you think. Pledge is just way, way better, because it doubles your ice novas, period. Last edited by Moethelion on Jan 1, 2020, 12:45:42 PM
