Upcoming Video Memory Utilisation Improvements

Sounds promising and I'm really glad to hear you are working on it. Communications like this really help us to feel like we've been heard and understood and I'd love to see more posts like this even if you don't have a fix in sight or even have time to look at it yet. We understand that your schedule is tight, we just want to feel reassured in some way.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to this. I tend not to fall victim to performance issues on my rig which is a miracle considering its age but I want the game to be better for others too and I hope it'll bring back some more positive discourse in the community.

A few paragraphs ago, we described our VRAM usage under this system as conservative. That means that our current implementation doesn't aggressively use all of your VRAM, and this causes players to get frustrated by assets being unnecessarily unloaded too early (for example, when you notice some items looking blurry for a short time).

Our engine team has been working on a better implementation that aggressively uses as much VRAM as it can to store as many assets as will fit. This is a good thing because users with mid-range or better graphics cards will experience assets being unloaded far less often than they currently do. It depends on how much VRAM you have, of course, but the issues that are currently attributed to resource unloading/texture streaming will be largely eliminated for many users. And of course, all of the above changes mean that users with low-end graphics cards don't experience crashes or frame rate drops when they run out of VRAM.

This was very interesting read.
Keeping in mind the current situation with accessibility to graphic cards can we get even more details?
I was planning to upgrade my old gtx 970 but currently it's not possible as better cards prices are insane.
So hearing that it will use better the memory available for GPU, my question s:
- will these changes improve performance for older generations like mine?
- how much VRAM is minimum, recommended, preffered?
- will for example 4GB be enough to run ultimatums without fps drops?
- any other suggestions for players stuck with old gpus?

PS. It would be soooooooo good to get some kind of benchmarks for different graphic cards with before/after.

This is important.
The game looks exactly the same, only performance got worse.
Do you find your gpu struggles a lot? Mine does, but only with PoE.
I can't help but get the impression the tldr version of the announcement is: "Hey kids, your pc sucks and is the reason you can't play our game." Maybe this will lead to GGG selling elder influenced ram sticks.
Absolute code chads
I'll believe it when I see it.
a million customers are unhappy to
Maybe have a separate settings for older lacking GPU users and a more aggressive one with better systems. It is time that potato PC users upgrade. Some are still made about the mandatory shadows thing...
Nice word but after 8 years and 8000+ hours, and reading these post the entire time, I've come to take official statements with a grain of salt the size of the kuiper belt.

The issue isn't this complicated I strongly suspect. Why not just quarter quantity and quadruple rarity? (By whatever the actual ratio is to get twice as good for half as much?)

Also instead of SELLING the ability to turn off visual bloat, why not give us the option? Personally I'd be willing to play this game in wireframe mode since I spend the vast majority of the time focused on the map overlay anyway.

I can't see the monsters when my camera is 30 meters up. All your promotional material uses camera behaviors we don't even have access to, it's like you're literally coding for a game we can't even see the way you do.

Try coding exclusively from a gameplay perspective as opposed to a marketing one.

Whoa! Performance improvements incoming. I want to believe. PogChamp Thumbs up.
So anyone out there even attempt my suggestion on page 8, or are we simply content on complaining in the meantime?
