what's with the ruthless obsession?
worst patch notes ever. is this what poe is going to be like until poe 2 releases? slowly grooming us into trying and playing ruthless? why?
they are making a separate game that will be one big ruthless, so why cant we have poe 1 free from all this ruthless nonsense? Last bumped on Aug 13, 2023, 11:35:23 AM

Try to be positive about it. The only thing for the side eh main game of POE that got nerfed is Vengeant Cascade. Sure we didn't get any buffs as usual but we didn't get nerfs either. Looking back at the past year i actually consider that an improvement.

what's with the ruthless obsession?
It's just another "WE like it so we shove it down our players' throats." thing. German saying: Schönheit und Funktionalität in Sekundenschnelle zu ruinieren, ist dem wahren Dilettanten keine Herausforderung!
torturo: "Though, I'm really concerned, knowing by practice the capabilities of the balance team." top2000: "let me bend your rear for a moment exile" |

Mainly because Ruthless of all the changes to Path of Exile could end up having the biggest impact on the game as a whole.
POE2 now has Ruthless features and now resources are being taken away from POE1. In POE1 case resources were already being taken away to develop POE2. GGG has handled Ruthless so badly and I've no idea why they ended up being so scared to talk honestly about Ruthless. It leads people to think there is some hidden agenda behind Ruthless and its effect on POE1, and 2. |

Seems like it's happening whether we want/ like it or not so make the best of this information I guess. Adapt or leave, it's their roadmap.

I tried ruthless last league and I found it really fun, but unfortunately I play for the challenge rewards and I found the ruthless ones to be too time-consuming. I would definitely play it more if there was some account-bound meta-progression added to it, that we could pick away at in free time.
Fortunately, PoE 2 looks like it's going into ruthless pace, which is going to be really refreshing when we're not zooming through, and have to engage monsters in combat. Think about that a bit - actual combat, not just 1-tapping everything and moving on. |

" Slower combat is good, slower character progression is not. Poe1 ruthless never fixed combat, it merely holds you at the very beginning of progression path by not giving you loot and skill gems. I can only hope that poe2 will do it the other way around - new combat tactics, and without slogging through same areas with same 2-link again and again. |

As far as I'm aware Ruthless is an optional mode you choose.
If the devs want to dedicate some time to that mode it's up to them. You do not have to play it. On that note, like it or not, with POE 2 on the way, the dev team will be split on various things for both games. As much as anyone would like 100% attention on their favorite thing, that will never happen. The only obsession I see is people constantly bitching about an optional game mode. |

" "optional" game mode gets more dev attention than the core game, 80% of the patch notes were about ruthless |

" MY only complaint with it, like I think a lot of people is that Chris stressed multiple times when he announced Ruthless that it was just a side passion project and was not going to distract from the core PoE game. All evidence since then has strongly pointed in the direction of this being false. Whether that was intention deception or just the boss's pet project getting far too much attention, I don't know |
