I managed to download the client but need to wait until the game is released to start it. (I mean the early access tonight 20:00 CET).

Same for me I already have download completed. I will do on endeavour os.

Ahhh I see under POE2 there is a "Hotfix" maybe this is only for POE2 :)

No, the "Proton Hotfix" version is available for all games.
Linux Mint has not had any problems so far. And I suspect that not much will change

Normally it should run. Im full of hope this evening. At least Poe has no stupid kernel level anti cheat stuff.
It is working like a charm :)
Steam, proton, 6950xt, opensuse. getting 128FPS in game at 4k
There is a report on reddit that with Nvidia, you need to change the renderer to DX12 (via a file edit since it doesn't launch).

If this game worked in Linux It'd probably be enough for me to drop Windows all together.

Proton support would probably be fine as well. I haven't spared a second after release to test proton.

Hopefully GGG doesn't develop their game in Windows, can you imagine writing code in windows ><, so maybe both sides win?!

It works. It's a little choppy on my rig, but I really need to upgrade anyway.
