POE2 Character Names?

The oldschool games still have unique names because they realise other people could impersonate you and ruin your reputation.

The biggest travesty of PoE 2 thus far is the archaic naming system they continue to use.

The last couple times I tried to name a character in PoE 1 I literally just pressed random buttons after 5 minutes of failing to find a decent character name. It's so bad. Shocking that they think this is adequate for PoE 2.

Same here, I just ended up rolling my head on the keyboard cause literally every name was already taken.
i was worried i'd have to login to poe1 to delete my name so i could take it in poe2 but it just let me use the same name no problem.

glad i could get it again. wouldve hated to have to find a new name lol
100%, for the love of god let us use every name we want!

Jonathan has mentioned in the zizaran's interview that it's something that they could do if many people care enough, so there is still hope!
Also joining in on this. At some point, the amount available (and somewhat legible) names are going to be registered. This leaves us with less and less names in the character space.

We already have a unique identifier and it should be the primary key for all our names.

Such a disappointment that this wasn't dealt with.
There is a resource for name generators on the forum, here:

I hope this provides some help for those in search of good, unique character names. =^[.]^=

The fact that you're worried about reputation in a video game people play for fun is one of the most batshit insane things I've ever read. During my time playing D4 I've ran into plenty of players using the same name as one of my characters during world bosses and not once did I think "Fuck! They stole my name!"

Also there's millions of people in the real world with the same name and it doesn't seem to cause a problem

If account names were hidden that might make sense but they aren’t so it’s a moot point.
More and more players are trying the game and staying, or they try the game and name-squat, or if it's like other games, they hold it until someone pays up for it.

This design needs to go. We're in 2024, if people want to bond with their character, let them name their character as they want. Yes add some random numbers like in Discord, but every character should have them.

You want to name your character "King"? Players should be allowed to - whatever will keep them around and make them feel good. I don't know how it is in D4 but D3 has it so it's not out of GGG's reach to implement.
