My Bonestorm/Reap Blood Mage starter for PoE 2 - THE JOURNEY PAID OFF

I think something funky is going on with fork. I felt like I am not one shotting higher hp mobs anymore with bone storm and started doing some testing on bosses.

It looks like my single target is actually going down, like the fork reduction to projectile dmg applies even to first target hit. Went back to Storm + Brutality + Scattershot + Arcane Tempo.

I am going through A2 Cruel right now using
Storm + Brutality + Scattershot + Arcane Tempo
Detonate Dead + Magnified Effect + Unleash + Considered Casting (aoe clear)
Bone Cage + Spell Echo + Lockdown (utility CC)
Vulnerability + Parsistence + Focused Curse
Power Siphon + Life Drain + Profusion (for occasional cull, power charges not realy needed, aoe is done with Detonate Dead mostly)

When I will get a bit higher (still no last level gems) I am strongly considering grabbing a skeleton summoning offhand with extra spirit and going cast on crit + soul offering for some auto casting of 32% multiplicative dmg for Bone Storm.

Just letting you know, you can get up to 50% chance to spawn 2 additional projectiles on cast via the skill tree, which works with bonestorm as such, that you will charge it WAY faster up to the max of 20 projectiles (It won't increase max amount of projectiles). Adding this into my build has been an absolute game changer.

it works when casting or shooting?

It rolls the effect on cast, so either you get it for the whole channel or you don't get it at all

Hello Exile!

You get it right, it's a coinflip when you either get it or don't get it, and I don't like at all gambling on the QoL of my gameplay, that's the reason I personally don't like that kind of nodes in the Tree.

Thanks for the ideas on this build OP and others! Will be waiting for the latest details (from OP) especially on the support gems you've already tried with Bonestorm 😁

Hello Exile!

Today I'll be uploading a step-to-step guide for this build. I really want all of you to see it, so stay tuned.

Hi, just wanted to say ive been following your build since day 2. Im trying to build it the same way as you as it inspired me alot. I really like the idea of the boner blood mage. I am looking forward to seeing you post a full guide for it. Right now its been kinda hard to follow, and i had to change most of my stat allocation to dex to be able to use the boots you've mentioned and the combat frenzy spirit gem. You got any tips on how to get more Dex? will it make my build any worse not being able to allocate those points into strenght?

Hello Exile!

Today I'll be uploading the guide, with the Tree im using right now to follow, Ascendancy variants and gem set-ups. Stay tuned!

I can highly recommend the momentum support on bonestorm. 40% more, for doing something I was going to do anyways. It activates before you can even finish charging up a full volley.

Hello Exile!

As soon as I'll get another support slot I'll be trying that! It's just I believe there are other gems that are kinda more mandatory, at least in MY experience.

Today I'll be uploading the step-to-step guide in this same post.

I am going through maps now using similar setup with fork and I feel like I have no idea how to scale further I am level 67 and im not sure where to go on the tree , I took extra fork and chance to pierce on the dexty tree, as described before I also think i might have lost single target damage with it , Have yo uconsidered using splinter aswell ? I am also not sure how it will be possible to scale enough toughness for higher tier maps , to add to that the casting time being slow makes it hard to go any faster in maps I'll probably make a new character from now and see if any of you guys find some breakthrough
Great writeup, Exile!

I've been running a striking similar build that I stumbled into myself, and I found yours when I was looking for some guidance, so its been deeply appreciated. I'm looking forward to the guide! My setup is similar to Oathiel#0747's - I've been running with powersyphon for consistent charge generation and I'm having a blast.

May I ask what this "MS movement feature" which keeps being mentioned is? I'm having trouble parsing it.

Also felt the same way, and even made testing on boss. Yes, it does trigger on the initial hit taking the whole dmg of bonestorm down.

I've been messing around with a bunch of Bonestorm setups in this thread and the other. Currently I've settled on:

Bonestorm with Brutality - Scattershot - Fork - Splinter.

Bone Cage with Lockdown - Spell Cascade

Detonate Dead with Magnified effect - Unleash - Corpse conservation

Vulnerability with Persistence (May drop this, since armor break is very reliable without)

Scattershot makes the charge feel WAY better. Once I get the armor break passive skill tree node I'll swap Splinter for something else, but this setup has been completely melting Act 3 Cruel. Your first Bonestorm will almost always kill at least one enemy, then just spam detonate dead and everything will evaporate. Single target its also very good, though I think there is room for improving there.

I am curious how/if Heft would work. Not sure what maximum physical damage does exactly since I haven't encountered a damage roof.

Now that you say it, indeed, switching heft on and off doesnt show any change in tooltip dmg atleast. i just tought it increases skills maximum dmg by 30% (i mean like 150-450 dmg w/o, with heft 150-600 dmg).

Nice observation, now i can swap inspiration back in :D

This was my observation too after testing Heft. It just doesn't seem to do anything, not in the description (that's obvious) but also not in terms of effects.

I can also confirm that Fork cuts your single target damage in half, tested multiple times against bosses and compared numbers. I must have something to do with bonestorm's projectiles being in a skein formation and when the first projectile hits, Fork seems to calculate that all other projectiles do -50% damage since the first one already forked in the meantime.

I'm currently running Momentum + Brutality + Arcane Tempo.

I've found these boots quite recently:

And I tried to play around them. Using fork, I made mobs on my screen pinned and thanks to shenanigans like Resonance and combat frenzy, hitting an enemy gave me a power charge. But since Combat Frenzy only allows this to happen every 6 seconds, I dropped it and kept running Power Siphon for creating power charges.
Unfortunately, no passive nodes nor spirit or support gems can really get something valuable out of pinned enemies that would help here (except more crit chance which I already have enough of).
