I don't exp freezes on steam, but got stutters and fixed it.

my full list of possible solutions:
Possible solution for game FREEZES and system reboots:
1) Update latest chipset drivers and BIOS for your motherboard. (be very careful with BIOS update watch guides or use help of experienced tech guys)
2) In BIOS settings DISABLE for ASUS-"Multicore enhancement", for MSI "Enhanced Turbo", for GIGABYTE "Tweaker tab, Enhanced Multi-Core Performance".
3) Clear AMD/Nvidia shader cache. (just google it)
4) DISABLE dynamic culling in game options.
5) Turn off Nvidia Reflex in game options.
6) CLOSE all your browsers and their processes in your system before playing the game.

For BES steps if you want to try it out:

1. Download BES CPU Limiter.
2. Unzip it, and run the .exe.
3. Launch Path of Exile 2 and stay on the log-in screen.
4. Go back to BES, and press the "Target" button.
5. Find pathofexile.exe in the list, select it, and press the "Limit this" button.
6. Set the slider at the bottom of BES between -2% and -5% (I would recommend -5%).

The task bar icon for BES should turn into a red square, Path of Exile 2 should be coloured in orange in the list inside BES, and it should say "Foe". See here for an example. Try anything between -2% and -5% (as mentioned I'd recommend -5% as -2% may not be enough to stop the system freeze)."

"Possible solution for game STUTTERS:

1) Update latest chipset drivers and BIOS for your motherboard. (be very careful with BIOS update watch guides or use help of experienced tech guys)
2) Clear AMD/Nvidia shader cache. (just google it)
3) Do NOT change NVIDIA control panel settings for PoE2.
4) Do NOT disable Full screen optimization in EXE files of the game.
5) CLOSE all your browsers and their processes in your system [in my case opened Chrome cause stutters every 2-3 seconds]
6) Turn OFF NVIDIA Reflex in game options tab.

Info for devs - mostly problem located in working browsers IDK how this correlate with PoE2 performance but it is!"

Yesterday tested different game settings and got a great result for my laptop configuration.
ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS
GPU: RTX 4060 Mobile
RAM: 24GB
Windows: 24H2

Even with the Chrome browser turned on with Twitch streaming enabled and lots of tabs, the game worked fine. What you described might help, but not for all players. This is what specifically helped me with my laptop freezing. Attached a link to the screenshots.

Also decided to reset all my settings and after about 20-40 minutes of playing my laptop again froze, had to turn it off again.
I've noticed that with DLSS enabled the game loads my CPU up to 90% and higher if I go to a city or another location. Having changed to FSR this value decreased many times. Somewhere from 30-50% and when moving to locations or teleport to the city it increased to 70-90%. With these settings yesterday I played almost 5 hours without a single crash and hang.

My friends on older AMD processors did not have such hangs of the game. Ryzen 5 1600 and Ryzen 5 3600. But one with 9800X3D processor had a lot of game freezes. And he was using other game settings without DLSS too.

So I hope GGG will fix this soon.

Same issue of hard freeze pc.

9800X3d 4070super 64GBram

All drivers, bios, windows up to date.

Playing on steam version.

I did this test yesterday. It seems like it took me longer until a crash occured. But still.. the game also crashed with the standalone client :(

Hmm, the standalone client works for me. With Steam, PoE freezes immediately when I start it.

But in general we can probably say: The Steam client has some strange bugs that don't appear in the standalone client, at least not as much or not at all.

So it's at least not a bad idea to use the standalone client first.
This should be a top priority for them to fix. All these hard freezes and constant restarts are not good for any hardware.

Unfortunately my solutions is for DESKTOP users
If desktops exp such big performance issues due to hardware-software poor interaction, I expect what LAPTOP users are doomed :(

I just downloaded the Standalone client. Now the game freezes up on the spinning gears logo of GGG. Unlike on Steam I cannot even get into the main menu.
ryzen 7 7800x3d, 4070ti super. up to date windows11.

Tried BEP and the lasso programs for CPU throttling, tried swapping between DX11, DX12, and Vulkan; eventually, all led to the loading screen freeze, forcing me to hard reboot on the PC.

The only thing that has worked for the last 12 hours has been to turn off engine multi-threading in the in-game options before any loading screen and then turning it back on once I've loaded into a new area.
