Hard crashing PC locks up

I had the same issue in poe1. But it was much less frequent. But in poe2 the bug is rather peculiar. I have no problem loading and running combat zones, but in towns i freeze during loading or in the first seconds of playtime.

The only solution for me is to turn off multithreading before going in town. And turn on after i go in combat zones.

i5-10400F
16 gb
4060
Win10 22H2

Also i use all variants of CPU limit from here - they did not work for me at all.

Same issue - 9800X3D, 4080 SUPER, Windows 11 24H2, all drivers and BIOS up to date. One thing I've noticed is that when I crash with a hard lock (requiring powering off the computer and restarting) my Lian-Li LCD Fans lose their settings and go back to the default logo - so the crash is taking out other system apps as the game goes down... When I then tried to log back into the game on the character I crashed out on the game would instantly lock up, requiring ANOTHER hard reset. I've managed to limit the number of times this happens by shutting down everything I can on the taskbar before launching the game - so the Lian Li Connect software, GoG launcher, Gigabyte Control Centre etc. This also seems to have solved the character selection locking the computer up as well (unless there's something going on in the background on the servers that was causing this like corrupted character state or some such...)

Also had numerous soft lockups that result in the game crashing to desktop after a few seconds of misbehaving...

I understand that the game's in early access, but I really hope GGG can nail down this issue and kill it soon - don't like power cycling the PC if I can help it.

Same issue..
WIN11 24H2
I5-12490F

I have actually found a solution that works for me: Instead of the Steam version, I simply use the standalone version. This doesn't cause my computer to freeze. There seems to be something wrong with the version on Steam.

Possible solution for game FREEZES and system reboots:
1) Update latest chipset drivers and BIOS for your motherboard. (be very careful with BIOS update watch guides or use help of experienced tech guys)
2) In BIOS settings DISABLE for ASUS-"Multicore enhancement", for MSI "Enhanced Turbo", for GIGABYTE "Tweaker tab, Enhanced Multi-Core Performance".
3) Clear AMD/Nvidia shader cache. (just google it)
4) DISABLE dynamic culling in game options.
5) Turn off Nvidia Reflex in game options.
6) CLOSE all your browsers and their processes in your system before playing the game.

For BES steps if you want to try it out:

1. Download BES CPU Limiter.
2. Unzip it, and run the .exe.
3. Launch Path of Exile 2 and stay on the log-in screen.
4. Go back to BES, and press the "Target" button.
5. Find pathofexile.exe in the list, select it, and press the "Limit this" button.
6. Set the slider at the bottom of BES between -2% and -5% (I would recommend -5%).

The task bar icon for BES should turn into a red square, Path of Exile 2 should be coloured in orange in the list inside BES, and it should say "Foe". See here for an example. Try anything between -2% and -5% (as mentioned I'd recommend -5% as -2% may not be enough to stop the system freeze)."
Just to add another voice to this, happens to me too all the time, seems relatively random. Among the most frustrating things to happen, hopefully it can be fixed sooner rather than later...

Sadly even with BES set to -10%, the game ended up freezing my computer.
Just crashed again, and now i cant start the game. Just shows me a message with "Unable to start PathOfExile.exe. Please reinstall Path of Exile.".

Alright so just wanted to chime in on a possible angle here. I usually install windows with a lot of tweaks. For instance I always use Chris Titus’s windows tweaking tool as well as various other tools because I like a svelte install of windows without all the bloat and the stupid default settings. However I was running into crashes and they just got worse and worse.

I installed windows again (latest windows 11) and got every single update and got all my drivers updated. Also installed all the apps for my gpu and cpu fans so I could blast em.

Now the game runs flawlessly and my temps are easy going.

My specs:
Nvidia 4090
AMD 9800X3D

Wish you all the best.

How long were you able to play with the Standalone version? That seems like an interesting lead.
