Hard crashing PC locks up
I have the issue aswell. Got 1 PC crash (whole pc freezees and i have to force restart) on EA release and 2 crashes today. Last few days no crashes, so todays hotfix seems to have broken something again.
In addition to the PC crash itself it also kills my audio of my headset (mic still works) and i have to unplug it, delete audio drivers, restart pc and connect it again to get the audio working again. Further testing of ECO-MODE (lowering how much wattage the CPU pulls):
For science -- While also in eco-mode, I also lowered the processor clock speed in the windows power plan - edit advanced power plan settings, under "processor power management" I changed the "maximum processor state" to 95% versus the default of 100%. This is obviously overkill (could probably be fine with 1-2% drop) and limiting some performance, but I was curious about temps and stability. With the new setting, in eco-mode, my temps do not get over 50c when loading - previously they were 90-95c when the hard freezes were happening. The game runs smooth aside from minor fps drops in towns when lots of players are there. I stress tested this as much as I could for an hour, literally loading zones for a full hour on my machine that was hard freezing - it did not freeze once and temps never got above 50c... While I understand people don't want to mess with this stuff, if you want to play the game, I highly recommend doing The game takes advantage of hardware too much, and while some of this is on GGG, some of it is also on the MOBO/CPU manufacturers (mainly AMD it seems), pushing this idea that their cards can be blasted for maximum performance - clearly this is not the case all the time, as the numerous crash reports have shown. If you are going to play, and want to play bc the game rules, I highly, HIGHLY, recommend you do this. It is protection against nuking your system. 1. Lower CPU wattage in BIOS (eco mode, will vary per mobo/cpu) 2. Reduce the maximum processor state a minor amount in Windows power plan settings. 3. Play the game *for those who are not seeing my previous posts on this, specs are: Latest Windows 11 RTX 4080 R7 7700x NVME SSD drives |

" The game is crashing more often with the latest hotfix. I have tried ECO MODE as well, limiting the CPU maximum usage to as low as 90%. Sometimes the game allows me to CTRL+ALT+DELETE and kill the process. Other times it continues to hard freeze my PC. Steam overlay, NVIDIA overlay, and Xbox Game Bar are disabled. Process Lasso sets CPU affinity to 10 out of 12 logical processors, which normally would prevent the hard freezes... But with the latest hotfix it is actually worse. I appreciate the efforts of everyone in this thread to help the rest of us play, but I'm not sure the problem is in our hands at this point. I would love to help beta test the game if I could actually play it. :) PoE2: A good, giving game

" Yeah. With multithreading disabled, It's much less performance indeed. Especially in big fights. That's why I switch it on when in maps. Let's hope they could fix it soon. So we don't have to do that. |

2nd freeze in a row, thinking if I should stop playing to not brick my computer....

Thanks for the suggestions on ECO mode, but I'm able to reproduce hard locks even with TDP limited to 65W. My guess is it works in much the same way messing with affinity cores or total processor usage work, by mitigating the symptoms of the actual problem but not actually solving it.
I would almost swear newly created characters reproduce the crash more reliably, although god knows why. How did they let this release as it is? Do they simply not test W11 or AMD or something? What a bad impression. |

" Damn... well, that makes me hurt. It definitely has helped my rig, but this is likely a hardware specific issue. Best of luck to everyone, I hope a real fix comes soon. |

My PC freezes as well. but also very poor performance in FPS when I can play, anyone else have this?

The problem with the game crashing is clearly with the game itself.
GGG needs to figure out if there's memory leak causing buffer overflows, or bad netcode issues causing systems to crash waiting for server data, or simply poorly optimized programming code. Too many different systems and builds are behaving the same issues. That pretty much confirms it's a game coding issue. The fact so many popular streamers seem unaffected, makes me wonder if they are playing on exclusive servers that are not suffering the same net congestion issues the general public is experiencing, especially with loading crash issues. But that's just my tinfoil hat theory with streamers in general. They're helping sell the game. Developers don't want the public watching the game crash live on Twitch after all... R7 5800x RTX 3070 Ti Win11 24H2 had a problem like yours. I tried many methods that were described here and the only one that helped was to limit the cores of the process, but then even with this method the PC began to freeze. It helped to completely get rid of the freezes by installing Windows 10 22H2 with kernel isolation disabled. Good luck.
