Hello everyone I believe i have discovered an actual real fix.
the culprit appears to be hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling. this windows feature can be disabled like so settings->system->display->graphics->advanced graphics settings->hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling->off and then restarting your pc if you are experiencing complete hard pc lockup during loading screens, (especially on latest windows update 24h2) then try disabling this feature as it seems to have a very bad interaction with poe 2. I was experiencing hard pc lockup at least 50% of the time when loading into a new zone. I tried pretty much every potential solution i could come across with no success. After disabling this feature i have had no lockups and no crashes. If disabling this feature doesn't completely prevent the issue for you then you can also try enabling v-sync and capping framerate at least below 100fps in the games settings. to add further info a modern cpu should be designed to reach 100% utilization without crashing a system, therefore this is likely not the direct cause as many people have assumed. The issue seems to be a combination of this windows feature and the game itself. Hardware-accelerated gpu scheduling for those wondering is a feature integrated into windows that is designed to offload certain tasks from the cpu to the gpu. This in theory reduces the load on the cpu, however the opposite effect seems to occur with poe 2. There is no need to worry about disabling this feature as it is only really designed to help pcs that are bottlenecked by a weaker cpu, and it can be re-enabled at any time. I hope this helps everyone, and thanks for reading! |

" LE: made my 2nd character and same issue, stuck in loading screen, freezing pc every time i try to load the character. Uninstall, enjoy your holidays and my negative review! |

" Lmao ok enjoy the freezes homie. looks like you're too stubborn to apply the solution when it's right in front of your face the whole time |

"First of all I am not your "homie". Second, I literally am on 23H2. Windows 10 and Linux on another rig. All of them are affected. Go on, tell me how the 24H2 update for Windows 11 fucks with my Windows 10. Better yet, I'm eager to hear about how it screws with my Linux distro on top. The only thing in front of my face are people like you and other GGG apologists trying to shove this on Windows 11 entirely. Yes, 24H2 has problems, no - this isn't one of them. |

" Thats why this was the first and last time i support a EA title when its clear it will be free to play after and did a refund. When this even is happening in the first PoE then its a big fail of GGG and insane that they do nothing now since over 2 weeks just cause of "holiday", this says a lot about the company and how much they care about their playerbase, as long u guys buy the stuff from the store. There are certain people in this thread (and the other one ) that love to derail the discussion by deflecting, minimizing the issue, or straight up insulting people.
1)"It is just Early Access" It does not matter. EA bugs is things like "my skill does not work", "the game shuts down", "x node is not working", "this boss has an iffy hitbox" NOT "Game hard crashes, locking up the PC, requiring manual shutdown, possibly bricking my PC". 2)"It can't brick your PC" It can. I explained the exact mechanisms enough times with decent clarity to the point anyone that claims otherwise is either a troll, or someone who is obstinate. Anyone that wants to double check can run my explanations through ChatGPT, ask a professor at their local university's ECE departments, or hit the books themselves. 3)"It is just a software issue but people mistake it with bricking" This one is actually true for some cases. The problem is this game does not come with a warning that it can cause problems that require above average computer literacy. In fact my greatest issue with this problem is exactly this. If they put a simple warning up top on steam and in this forum only people that know what to do would play the game despite crashes. This way GGG could have avoided causing people to incur damages. 4)"Any damage can be fixed" Those who say this omit the next portion which is "for a price". For some reason these type of derailers think that just because it costs something they can afford, the costs can be afforded by everyone. Even if there were Samaritans that fixes PCs for free, the loss of time is substantial. 5)"Did you make plans around playing this game? What a loser!" This one is really a low social intelligence take. People have responsibilities. Some people enjoy living an ordered life. Some people just want to play the game they paid for when they want. 6)"This is a Windows 11 24H2 issue" These people are 100% trolls. No need to even spare them a glance. We all know it happens to all kind of OS. 7)"They can't fix it fast, I'm a programmer too so I know its really hard for them to fix it" We are not telling them to fix it. We are telling them to communicate with us. Putting a warning on steam, putting a warning on here. A post that explains what they have done until now such as "we have eliminated X as a cause, we are now looking at Y to see if that is the one that causes this." 8)"Your PC is bad." If it is above the required specs, then PoE2 should be able to be played in that PC. Even if the PC is below the requirements, PoE2 should not be taking the whole PC down. 9)"Install these, then perform this Navajo ritual, afterwards pray to Celestial Worthy of Heaven and Earth for His blessings" Workarounds are not fixes. People who have paid for a game should not be forced to install third party programs, or go through hoops to play said game. Furthermore, I ask anyone who sees this message to please give a negative review for Path of Exile 2 on Steam. |

" Lol you need to chill buddy. My personal experience is that I downgraded to 23H2 and have not experienced a single freeze in over a week. I think the first thing people should try is doing a clean install of 23H2 because all that CPU fiddling is pretty sus. Anyways, I'm gonna go back to playing the game without any freezes. See you later homie |

" 1) is already invalid with the fact that the same issue is in Path of Exile 1 right now too and was already several times in PoE1. This does NOT happened for the first time! |
