Ascendancy Trials Feedback: Understanding Player Concerns
Can only hope GGG is not too stubborn, as always, to ignore this well written argument.
Very good suggestions for replacing a dismal trial system. "There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. " ~ Hunter S Thompson ~

+1. Please no more Trials.

" Even if they go all in on the honor mechanism and refuse to completely cancel it, at least make it redundant when you're fighting the final boss. The middle parts of the trial is not challenging enough? Ok watch your honor and avoid getting hit. This is bad enough. But having survived all the RNG rooms to finally reach the finall boss, then lose the whole trial when I'm still very much alive, barely got hit, and still have full health flask? That's ridiculous. I wasn't there during those seasons in poe1, but I quickly learned why it seems they were not very popular. In my very first sekhema I got a -25% movement speed debuff in my second room, and you can imagine when I found out that this debuff would last the entire trial... yeah, not fun at all. |

I love the idea of just removing it altogether until they develop a finalized (preferably fun) method of obtaining these skill points.
I am okay with not having the full fleshed out game. But please do not add a mechanic that is intolerable just as a filler or placeholder. I was actually enjoying the game thoroughly until cruel Sekhemas (minus a few irritations about the damage from monsters' post-death). Once hitting cruel Sekhemas, I thought I was ready to get my build rolling. Unfortunately, I died twice to mechanics that would never kill me while mapping. I am thinking to myself, "I can either go farm for more tokens, hopefully roll lucky on the layout, and hopefully make literally ZERO mistakes. Shouldn't take much longer than an entire day-off. ORRRRRRR... I could just play something else, because that doesn't sound like a fun challenging experience." Last edited by Passetto#0008 on Dec 14, 2024, 2:39:28 AM

100% agree with this.
On my end, I appreciate a challenge and lore wise it's cool our characters have to do something extraordinary to progress and gain ascendancy. However, the current system is extremely punishing and unpredictable (I'm in the Temple of Chaos and surprised there isn't a relic board like in Act 2). I'm assuming I'll see my modest collection of relics later in the campaign but we'll see. When you get a trial orb early in an Act, I assume that I can immediately dive in and complete it to get some new abilities. Trial of Chaos has a ton of variability and the room attributes are insane. Pyramids with rotating lasers? 300% crit on hit by monsters? This would be bad ass to experience if I could survive for more than 5 seconds. Not only could I not chip away at the mobs in there, my character was getting bulldozed and pushed across the map. I love the combat system but boy did this trial punish me for my build, or at least that's what it feels like. I'm not sure what the design intention was. I guess I can continue through Act 3 but it feels bad having just found this quest. I hope GGG is listening and somehow improves this part of the game. I'm really digging it as a whole for what it's worth. |

Bump.
100% fact about the specialized builds for those 2. One could argue "But there is 4 other ways to Ascend that isn't the game yet. Well, we're in the now atm. It's cool if you wanna spend 100's of hours doing Sanctum or Ultimatum for loot but not every character is equal in that matter, some are really missing a lot, Warrior for example doesn't even have a meta gem aside from the totem which is utter crap. Then again, we get warriors with their build fantasies about trading blows- Sanctum doesn't allow that and ultimatum depending on the mods you get makes this 10 x harder. Could be just Warrior is terrible. Aside from the huge L thrown our way (Warrior), I managed to do all Ascendancies but was it Fun? No. Did it feel Mandatory? YES it did. |

Today I failed 2 times with the 3rd ascend honor trial. Trap drained my honor fast af; 3 trials was a very long run but got nothing at the end. Terrible experience in my gaming life. They are not fun, only frustrating and torturous... Whoever designed this fucking system should be fired.
