One portal feels so bad.
1. Losing a waystone sucks.
2. It ruins multiplayer. If one player dies, they may have to wait 10 minutes for the others to finish the map.
3. I play softcore because I don't want to need to play perfect. It feels like pseudo-hardcore is being forced on me and makes the game less fun for softcore players.
I didn't realize they were deleting characters if you died in a map... oh wait, they aren't. There is nothing even partially hardcore about the current mapping system.
You fail, you lose the bonuses and try again. You used your entry token, so you need to provide another one to try again. That's it. Nothing even remotely close to deleting your character and forcing you to start the entire game over.
Wrong. People will die a few times, get frustrated with this horrible game design that disrespects their time and simply quit.
I love this bullshit phrase "disrespects their time". I'm sorry if a couple setbacks is enough to let you rage quit, perhaps duplo are a better entertainment for you.
If you just want a game that gives you a "you win" screen for pressing a button I'm sure we can find one for you. Some of us actually enjoy games that don't just hand you a win or give you so many free passes it's almost impossible to lose.

No they won't. You might. But most won't

+1
The frustration is unnecessary.
Losing a map after getting one hit by some unseen effect while mopping up otherwise easy crowds of small mobs is super annoying.
Combined with the stuttering and crashes in these situations, I've had 10+ deaths now that felt unfair/outside my control and losing the map and experience adds insult to injury.

Agreed, losing the xp + map is a real bummer. Choose 1 or the other or some mix.
