The reason item rarity hasn't ALREADY been removed from PoE2
The magic find mess of PoE2 is actually a bit of a surprise to some that remember the removal of item quantity from PoE1 and how good it was for that game then. Some might wonder why item rarity isn't just still around in PoE2, but also why it was experimentally buffed so much too. We can see just how poorly that is going.
The deciding reason GGG kept item rarity around isn't actually exclusive to magic find. It has to do with the messy state of gear progression. You see some builds in PoE eventually hit a wall where they don't actually need or use all 6 mods on their items. This is because some builds simply use less different stats than others and reach required soft or hard-caps with things like attributes or resistances with fewer and higher tier mods. Since these builds can't get anything else on certain gear slots to scale harder it becomes a gear progression issue. GGG kept item rarity in not just as an alternate option, but as a filler stat due to a lack of options. The complete removal of magic find (typically with the buffing of default loot) has a majority consensus backing it and GGG understands the larger issues magic find brings, but they are hesitant to remove item rarity from gear because of the above stated void it would leave. If one is to take a step back and look at the full picture the solution(s) is/are actually quite simple: You just need mod pools on some gear slots to have 1 or 2 more options that are universally useful stats or cover build options that the gear pieces didn't before. Another thing is that stats that have hard-caps should be re-evaluated and changed so that people have a reason to actually want them beyond a certain threshold. This would mainly be the scalings of attributes and resistances. Overall, this is why GGG has yet to get rid of the problem child that is item rarity and magic find in general. If you are more curious about how gear hard-caps are bad for the game and can be fixed then I have another post talking about the scrambled scaling of resistances and how that could be resolved: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3629096 Last edited by LVSviral#3689 on Dec 23, 2024, 8:07:09 PM Last bumped on Jan 2, 2025, 7:08:26 PM

The issue sends some pretty major ripples through the balance of class popularity too. If you look at the player metrics for the top 100 XP players, it is SIGNIFICANTLY weighted towards the classes that have more room on their gear to slot in MF (stormweaver and deadeye being the obvious two), and that problem will only continue to compound on itself. More players see the top players playing those classes, other classes get less guides and content and conversation time dedicated to them, snowball continues to roll. Really, REALLY hoping that we hear from the team pretty damn quickly after their (much deserved) holiday break comes to an end. This just cannot last.

" Literally that. Meanwhile, my Warrior needs armor, maximum health, energy shield, and needs to focus on having more points in intelligence to be able to use equipment that provides armor and ES. And of course, he needs to have a lot of points in STRENGTH, because the cost of using a two-handed weapon together with a shield is the weapon's strength requirement TRIPLED. How do I fit MF into all this? And even worse, even meeting all these requirements, every Warrior build is slower and weaker than all the other classes and builds. |

I see no issue with magic find. It's not a necessary stat, and with group play, finding magic items and divs and exalts is rather good.
MF is great for single players who want to farm currency fast or for those who need currency to optimize heavily. But it is far from a necessary stat. Of course it's going to have a snowball effect when it comes to builds, but that's less about magic find and the fact that the builds themselves are broken, even without magic find in them. Take magic find out of the builds and they are still heavy and fast hitting builds that people would be running ANYWAYS. Magic find was useless in PoE after nerfs and only useful on certain builds that were declared useless as the game continued on. With builds that did maps afk, faster, and farmed content without it, superceding it. Anyone can dip a little into magic find, to benefit, but you certainly don't need 100%+ for it. You don't even need to run magic find either if you run group play heavily, nor for any fast clearing builds that where sacrificing for MF, would give you much worse clear. |

Fuck rarity. It's killed the game for me. I don't want to build my characters around rarity, stops me from doing other things in the game apart from braindead mapping. I wanted to do some of the bosses today and had to buy and switch out every piece of gear apart from belt, bow and weapon so i could equip a fucking thiefs torment. Took me hours to get the balance right. If I didn't have shitty rarity in place of attributes and resistances I would not have had to spend time buying and working stuff out. It's exhausting. Just make rarity what it used to be in PoE1, I'm fine with that. I have put all my rarity gear up for sale. I won't contribute to the problem any longer and become a hypocrite.

" Meanwhile, your average Spark Sorc doesn't even need to max their resists or invest in defenses beyond MoM. Sure, they'll get stunned and die to melee every now and then, but the div profit from blasting entire screens before they even reach you means the occasional death is worth it. |

" Having mf early on has been awesome as a new player. I noticed an increase in much needed materials I needed for theory crafting...since I don't have too much knowledge on the game. I hope they don't change it and if they do, not heavily. It's been a great experience for me, especially rolling a higher mf amulet or ring early on. Pesty

I would say its probably because they on holiday.
I expect a nerf in the next patch. |

" If you are playing in trade, you should definitely care about this issue. Top builds with MF are pulling over 20-40 divines in 1 single map. This is creating a high inflation in the market affecting everyone. |

" Sounds like some BS. Where's the proof? I've seen 550 rarity spark build clear juiced t16s and get 3-5 divine of return. If you're talking about group play then maybe it's super broken as always. Haven't seen it personally. Last edited by apexmateria1#2307 on Dec 27, 2024, 11:41:03 AM
