stat tiers remaining backwards. really?
to me, this is the worst news in an otherwise great dev stream.
the current system is super convoluted because different stats have differing amounts of tiers. tier 1 stats should always be the best period and i will continue to make this case until i am blue in the face. --- lets look at ONE example. intelligence gloves. thats ONE of SEVEN different glove types. strength gloves: different stats ect ect ect. - 26 stats with tiers ranging from 4-12 (184 tiers). - is Tier 7 Maximum Life a more fortunate roll than Tier 4 Attack Speed? it sure sounds like it. - NOPE. - attack speed has 4 tiers. - maximum life has 9 tiers. now lets extrapolate that to a piece of loot that can have 6/26 stats with a tier range between 4-12. now lets extrapolate that to every gear slot. bonkers. confusing. convoluted. it is effectively impossible to judge loot without external tools or the memory of an elephant. that is NOT new player friendly, that is not player friendly at all. if you add a new one thats better, make the new one the new tier 1. i cant imagine new tiers being added mid league, them changing between leagues is fine. --- IF all stats had the same number of tiers the current system would be great, but they dont. tier 1 being the best makes INFINITELY more sense in the current system. waystones working the other way is fine. if the word "tier" on waystones is an issue then change the word. "level 15" waystones would be perfectly fine. --- PLEASE. PLEASE. as i finish writing this it has occurred to me that the current system would probably be fine if it showed the max tier.
so like +10 Dexterity | Tier 2/9 ^ this would just be slapping a bandage on the worst possible approach. - i would still STRONGLY prefer it the POE1 way. - readability at a glance is a HUGE deal. - i dont like the idea of needing to use a keybind to get the info i need, tier should show by default. - opacity of the tier should be 100% instead of the lower value currently used. Did they address it or did it not come up? It’s disgustingly bad this way and I wonder what their logic is. If it’s just an oversight and they have more important things to fix first I would understand that.

i couldn't be bothered to see that dev from poe's stream yapping, instead just looked at rax's short summary.
The word of "adding new tiers" came up in the summary - hence easier to manage, and i'm like Don't you already have enough tiers to accommodate crafting? If anything, just tweak the existing values in each tiers, you could change the direct stats value, the weightage, and the ilvl when each tier appear, why in the hell would you want to further dilute the pool of affixes that's already so flooded now... So it boils down to the devs think their playerbase's experience comes second to their own convenience, because ya'know, adding T13(as the best) on top of existing life tiers is much simpler(no need to touch existing 12 tiers) as compared to: adding T1(as the best) would mean rewording the prior 12 tiers. |

i really dont like the top tier not being T1 too. i really really dont like it. no one cares what the bottom tier is, we care what the top tier is, making all the top tiers have the same numerical name gives people a handle on the system and makes talking about items so much easier.
the devs on the stream couldnt even talk about the subject properly because of the jank that having it backwards makes. its just making a muddled mess where there really doesnt need to be one, and the last thing poe needs it more muddle. |
