Couldn't you argue that purchasing equipment with rarity mods is an investment? Equipment is balanced around the fact that they have six possible mods, I think that having a non-essential mod (it does not boost DPS or increase survivability) that is nice to have (and not even necessary to max out) is something that allows more sophisticated itemization.
I can see the point, and I agree with the premise overall, but I don't think a semi-mandatory stat that affects your currency gain should exist on your gear.
Especially when you get none without it.

And here just more of the same, just like in all of your posts.
Yet again changing the subject instead of actually arguing the point.
You claim that the game is balanced around having rarity.
I ask you to provide evidence.
Your evidence is that its basicly impossible to gear up without rarity.
I tell you that ive done it twice, and so have countless others.
You now start talking about trading. Which is irrelevant.
1. Trading is part of the game
2. To trade you need to have something to trade with, usually currency. So if I need rarity to get currency, and i had no rarity then how did I get currency to trade with in the first place?
3. My second char is ssf
You said empirical evidence is not evidence, I gave you a wiki page.
You said you geared up your characters with no rarity, I asked how.
Ok I will try to take this at face value.
I have now explained to you that I geared my second character in ssf with no trading. This has also been done by countless others.
Now please explain to me how my experience with gearing up without rarity (which ive just explained to you) is empirical evidence of the game being balanced around having rarity?

The only conclusion I can draw from that is we have fundamentally different experiences.
In my experience, I got absolutely nothing with 0 Rarity, and Regals / Exalts slowly started appearing with 50+.

But... you get SOME without it, right? That's integral to my point that you acknowledged. Maybe you can't get 150 IIR when you start mapping, but you mostly get your defensive layers, lifepool, resistances, damage, SOME IIR (20-50) in a good state - your total equipment cost is probably 1-2 div. Next step would probably replacing your equipment a little at a time with comparable stats with an additional IIR mod on them.

You keep making new threads about the same topic and then everytime someone asks you to provide facts about where you learned that the game was balanced around having rarity you just stop responding and make a new thread.
Can you please for once provide any evidence, facts or references to where you learned that the game is balanced around having rarity? Especially since the devs litterally yesterday confirmed that it was working "as intended".
Maybe that way you will spare us of having to see you making a new thread every 15mins
The "as intended" is balanced around Rarity.

See, you're confusing what you want with what GGG intends. They have no impact on each other. You have no evidence a 0% MF character isn't exactly what GGG intends. In fact since they've EXPLICITLY made trade a central pillar of their entire game design, I'd wager this 0% MF example is exactly what they intend.
I honestly think you, and many other similar MF haters, are conflating MF and trade. The game absolutely is balanced around trade as being a central pillar of the game design and your character's progression. PoE1 and PoE2 were never intended to be a single player game you grind to the end, SSF was added way later as an optional mode for people that wanted the challenge and clout. I could be wrong, but the read I get from these topics is that people are against trade being a central part of character progression. Which is noted feedback, but not something that's ever likely to change and so you may find other games more to your liking.

You're implying that the intended experience is for me to not have any Regals / Exalts, because those only started appearing once I switched to Rarity gear.
I tested this by farming Sekhemas for several hours with 0, then a couple more hours with 50 and 100 Rarity.
I find that not likely, and the most likely conclusion for me is that the game is balanced around having 100 Rarity.
Trade is irrelevant to me, I play SSF / HCSSF.

That was surprisingly positive to hear. Cause we are now finally arriving at my point.
People will have different experiences, which is why this isnt empirical evidence of anything.
You are more then welcome to have the opinion and give feedback that you think gearing up without rarity is too hard. And even that rarity is a stupid unecassery stat.
But that is completetly different from insisting on the game being balanced around having rarity and making statements that are in direct opposite of what the devs have stated and then providing no reasoning or references to it.

The 2nd part is the logical conclusion of the first one though.
Unless the intended experience is for you to never gear up.

So, you self-imposed a challenge with SSF, removing a central pillar of character progression, and your complaint is that your character progression is hamstrung? The game is not balanced around SSF, and almost definitely never will be. You are not intended to play the game without trade, so the entire experience you're describing is already not the intended experience is just one you choose to inflict on yourself.
That would be like playing ruthless in PoE1 and complaining that you can't buy support gems. Or playing Elden Ring on a DDR pad and complaining that you have to be physically fit to play the game. Lmao
