Game Performance: Renderer Options
I think I've complained about game performance ad nauseum at this point, but there is some info that I think might be helpful. This season, I noticed that DX12 performed incredibly better than any of the options of last season. What's strange though is that DX12 started performing markedly worse when I started mapping. So, I switched back to Vulkan and the performance improved slightly enough to make the game slightly more enjoyable. I found this strange. I purposefully chose a class this time around that doesn't depend on any sort of AoE casting because I was under the impression that it was what was causing the extremely poor performance. Well, low and behold, that was not the case. Does vulkan handle all the mob density and spell casting\aoe better? If so, how? Can you find a happy medium between both renderers? And still yet to be answered, are you going to give us options to lower all the graphics much further then currently available?
Fuel for the flamers: Intel 12th Gen i9-12900 2.5Ghz 64GB Ram GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Campaign FPS was a solid 30fps all the time as that's what I set my limit to. Mapping FPS is always less than 20. Last bumped on Apr 15, 2025, 8:48:11 AM

That cpu at 2.5 ghz only? I've noticed on my end that the stutters are mostly from being cpu limited. If you're running at that low frequency, you're going to hit a wall even with a good gpu.

" I'm on a 9800X3D and I get random stuttering, IDK what causes it, seems to just happen at random. First time it happened, i cleared the game cache, directx shader cache and the nvidia cache - the next day it ran smooth until late at night the stuttering happened. It almost feels like a memory leak? because it happens once a day, always after the client has been open for a long time, 8+ hours. It's a consistent problem tho, the stuttering has randomly appeared once every day that I've played. When I say stuttering, I'm talking about frame time spikes. I don't use DLSS, if that matters. It's 2.5 base. It usually runs ~3.7-3.9 when multitasking. Its the newer type CPU where cores it has performance and effeciency cores. The max frequency is 5.1Ghz.

Not running DLSS absolutely tanks my FPS.

" I suggest you look into your cpu power management settings. They're under the old control panel. If you have something like "balanced" the cpu is going into idle low power and high power all the time. If you choose maximum power instead it will drive up the frequency but be more stable. Also there's a similar power management for the gpu in the nvidia app. Of course the game could still have stutters after that, shader compilation issues, server lag spikes, etc. But at least that helps on your side. " I run the "Ultimate Performance" power management setting. |

" Then there is something severely wrong with your PC. I run a 12900k on a 3080 12GB in 4k and have no graphical stuttering @100fps. Last edited by Kadath128#6487 on Apr 15, 2025, 12:35:12 AM

" From what I read that might be counter productive. If you run it at that setting it might overheat and if your cooler isn't perfect, it would hit the cpu performance. https://www.howtogeek.com/368781/how-to-enable-ultimate-performance-power-plan-in-windows-10/ I'd scale back to "normal" max performance to be sure. Updating your chipset and bios wouldn't hurt either if done right. Intel CPU's have been inconsistent in recent gens, many controversies with defects and revisions to power management. " Most of the issues with intel processors are from 13th and 14th gen, but the heat is a good point. The 12 series puts out a decent amount of heat, and given the low clocks OP is reporting I would almost bet at this point it is heat throttling. Curious to see if they respond as I have a nearly identical system and am not having nearly the same issues. |
