Tencent is what ruined PoE 1

" GGG is a very tiny piece of the TenCent behemoth. In 2023 TC had $86 billion in sales. GGG has about 100 million NZ$ in revenue. Typically TC would want GGG to stay profitable and even grow in profitability over time. TC's product line includes: Artificial intelligence; cloud computing; automation search engine; social networking; instant messaging; mass media; web portals; e-commerce; web browser antivirus software; music payment system; film production; video games; online services If you do a bit of research, you will find that TC has ownership or partial ownership of many many games you might be playing. sadly, i've got 4 words for you my friend

I would say PoE 1 is in a very good shape now. Game is refined and Settlers Leauge is awesome, tough it may be that Settlers is the last major addition (at least for some longer time).

To be fair they probably enjoy the coding, and the money, however to enjoy the game they have to play it ....

" Yes, because it costs money to run the servers and pay their staff. If players aren't enjoying the game enough to buy stuff, GGG must change course. It's not a matter of Tencent telling them what to do. This is a universal truth that all game developers are a business first and foremost, and they're trying to sell a product. This is just as valid to indie developers as it is to AAA studios. Turns out GGG's vision doesn't align with the playerbase. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish. |

The issues are likely far less conspiratorial.....
Path of Exile 1 has been around for 13 years. It's simply nearing the end of its life when it comes to development. They have no more ideas. The issues with Path of Exile 2 were clearly spelled out by the developer: they had no idea what it would take to run two games simultaneously. AND because of the PoE burnout.....the ideas are lackluster. GGG is NOT the genius magical company that everyone seems to think they are, because they came out with a hit like Path of Exile. They are a smaller, less talented company that created ONE game that was good. And its old, practically vintage now. That's it, plain and simple. Starting anew....with PoE 2

" If this was true, they'd already have brought back Legacy. |

" This. GGG has plenty of creativity to offer, as evidenced by the plot of the PoE2 campaign. What they lack is staff size to work on both games simultaneously, hence why PoE1 is not maintaining a consistent update schedule like it used to. Not everything needs a complex answer to explain why things are the way they are. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish. |

" This just simply isn't true. And I actually laughed at the fact that you used the PLOT of PoE 2 to show that they do...the plot can be (and probably was) written by AI. We are talking YEARS of development here, not a few months. The release of the game is NOT the only development timeframe. They constantly recycle the same ideas over and over again, for a good 4 years now. They make the same errors over and over again. They nerf and buff to create the "illusion" of creativity. They release functionally broken new skills under the guise of "new", which go unused. They haven't released an endgame expansion in a VERY long time. This last league was an idle simulator, the laziest possible idea a game developer can lean on. And we've been stuck with it for a year. Sure, lack of manpower played a tiny role, but they had NOTHING in the storehouse to even tease. There were zero ideas for 3.26. They said as much in their multiple apologies. And then there's PoE 2.....a brand new game that....recycles old content from PoE 1, almost entirely. PoE 2 has been in development at least 6 years, if not longer. It should have been ENTIRELY new, not less than 50%. The evidence we have been presented since months before the release of PoE2, throughout the release of PoE 2, and within PoE 1 for multiple years shows the well of creativity is drying up. The quality control is drying up. The talent is simply not there anymore. Games have a finite lifetime and PoE 1 is reaching "completion". PoE 2 is just simply a mess, and they DO have the manpower for that. That shows how bad the creativity and talent pool is. To the guy who said they would have already brought back Legacy: they brought back HOW MANY previous leagues and events in the last year? Kalandra, Sentinel, Necropolis, Shifting Stones (event), Atlas Invasion (event), etc. They already ARE bringing back old content instead of creating new. Even Phrecia was, as they described it, a collection of garbage bin ideas. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on May 6, 2025, 9:46:57 PM
