Complete Game Crash (5th time) - "Error: Unable to re-create swapchain..."
Had 5 crashes allready.
Allways the same error: "Unable to re-crate swapchain, likely because a third-party program is keeping it alive. If your're running OBS in Game Capture mode, try switching to Window Capture". (Screenshot attached). I'm not using OBS. Just Steam, Discord, Spotify, PoE Overlay 2 https://imgur.com/a/jUwCC9v Rig: AMD 9800 X3D RTX 5090 Astral 64GB DDR5 RAM Asus X870-A MoBo Win 11 DX12 Last edited by Kylonas#5510 on Aug 30, 2025, 11:19:19 AM Last bumped on Sep 21, 2025, 7:30:10 AM

Try removing the NVIDIA app from your apps through task manager. It comes with a built-in screen capture software (NVIDIA shadowplay or whatever it's called). Maybe this is what the game is referring to? In any case check your task manager and start killing off .exe's one by one to see which one is causing it. It might even be the browser. Kill absolutely everything that isn't strictly required by Windows. Just the bare minimum + PoE2 and see if it goes away.
If that doesn't work try Vulkan, I had a lot of issues with RTX 5080 on DirectX constantly getting black screens but VUlkan fixed it for me. Also with 9800X3D. edit: also I think steam now has in-game capture doesn't it? i'm not sure i don't use steam but i remember reading about it. vaal or no balls Last edited by QueenTakesKnight#2764 on Sep 1, 2025, 5:30:13 AM

ok guys.
So i have found a solution. not tried this one yet. just implemented. so i will be testing in few hours. but you could give it a go. The fix: You can manually add the OverlayMinFPS key as a DWORD (32-bit) value with RegEdit or save and run the following as dwm_mpo_fix.reg. Afterward in Task Manager, end the task for Desktop Window Manager. It will auto restart on its own. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm] "OverlayMinFPS"=dword:00000000 |
