The "TRIP" mechanic is the dumbest thing I've seen in a video game.

it's kind of a skill issue. you're not meant to use sprint around monsters all the time and if you do get ready to dodge roll.

Yeah ...
Use the jank out of place dodge roll to initiate the lame go for a jog. All this to avoid what were cool motion skills that were fun and enhanced game play. Now you roll like an idiot every 2 seconds and get to run and fall down. What are they making "Moronscape Return of the Drool Cup!" Hey Jonathan, movement skills were a win, stop quadrupaling down on bad decisions. What happened you said they were a bad idea in a meeting once and now trapped in your ego. Rolling sucks Jogging sucks Attaching negative stats in an ARPG is lame. Can wait till this evolved into the Asthma condition, slower run speed on hot days. Ohh wait 20% run speed , but now need knee replacements -15% attack speed. Ohh you only have 74.99% on your stability stat. Doriani farted and you fell over.. Trip is a great mechanic and fits well into what sprint needs to be.
Devs were generally scared to add a sprint mechanic. There are already movement speed stats on boots which is the most core modifier you can possibly roll on any build. Much of the game is running between groups. You can't just add a sprint since the movement speed sprinting grants is arbitrary at that point - all movement could just as well be sprinting. Tripping is the compromise - it's to solve the issue of long downtimes searching mostly cleared maps for missed objectives, while not making movement in the game feel unusually fast. Don't sprint into groups of enemies. You won't trip. It's not meant for combat. It's meant for map exploration. |

Counterpoint: it's funny and makes me laugh when my character eats dirt

You're not supposed to sprint in combat or past enemies.
The devs do not want you sprinting in combat or past enemies. They implemented tripping explicitly to prevent us from sprinting during combat or bypassing enemies. |

" Im in the same boat, especially when I run with friends, hears the sounds of your friends player trip and fall is the best, cracks us up everytime. |

If the purpose is to stop people from running past enemies, why does my character immediately trip after rolling during combat? this mechanic works like crap.

I hate sprint altogether.
I don't wanna push extra button just to to move at normal speed and move in slow-mo without it. The way campaign should be played by your second and any subsequent characters: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3772827
