Some new issues I noticed with Crossbow skills after applying patch 0.3.0.
" Those people got everything they wanted in patch 0.1.0 due to lack of balance. if a grenade do 1.2 million DPS then you dont need anything else in boss room... and it will take you 3 sec.... Nice balance GGG. |

just galvanic shards/ shockburst rounds and explosive shot/ explosive grenade with some way to generate bolts or desolate xbow dominating xbow skills
anything else is a meme this problem exists not just with xbows but also spells and melee, especially in progression. at a baseline most of the skills are either too conditional, too clunky, or just don't do enough pointing at the top of PoENinja and saying the game is unbalanced is just really silly by the way, obviously that is not your average build that is one of the most invested players in the world Last edited by AverBeg7#1689 on Sep 29, 2025, 8:48:39 AM

I agree with your points. Crossbow should have some quiver equivalent, a bandolier item for offhand slot. It just makes sense. Its so obvious I felt at first like they must have forgotten? But it doesn't seem like something they intend to add. Seems strange to me. I get not everything has to be the same but it just fits the theme so well.
Loading different ammos is still awkward. Nothing else requires this - I have to load a spell into a staff, or switch to different kinds of arrows? I would rather use the two weapon slots with different ammos loaded and switch between firing weapon 1 + 2 than change ammos. So the instant weapon swap helped there but its still fiddly if I want to use more than two different ammos. Maybe we could have three weapon slots... I don't necessarily want to be a grenadier, or use totems / banners. I find those kind of skills unsatisfying. Crossbow is effectively a gun - it even has empty shell casings fly out as you fire... I might use these other skills situationally, but I don't wanna run around spamming grenades constantly. I want to shoot stuff. Its great you can play this game like a top down shooter with advanced customisation, but it is lacking variety of effective ammo skills, especially for bosses. The issue I have with bossing is that it seems like you need two different builds. I might clear with perma + frag? But then I use armor pierce and HVR for boss? Its two different characters in one. This effectively reduces build variety. What am I ever going to use to shoot a boss to death? HVR or shockburst? Not rapidshot anymore, thanks. HVR had strange change where it buffs against broken armor but doesn't consume it? So no shard scavenger there. There's a couple of cold ammo skills that are not great. WTF even is Ice Shards? Does anyone use this effectively? Change this to a single target ice skill. Glacial Bolt is not something I would ever want to use either. How about some frost grenades? As for merc ascendancies (as the designated crossbow class) - WH is "okay" but lacks anything that helps much with bosses. Tactician has couple of strong things for me ie reduced spirit cost and pinning everything but is too focused on banner / totem things specifically. Gemling - idk. Doesn't float my boat. I guess it has a theme of its own. If you think about it there's not much in any ascendancy that emphasises "Gunner" playstyle. Ranger has more stuff around that.
