The number of skills in the game feels very limited.
I wanted to play something spell-based, but having such restricted options felt boring. It’s like the game is literally telling me: “If you want fire, play this. If you want cold, play that.”...
The skill choices in the game feel like an illusion. They’re oversimplified, as if each element just got one main skill, 2-3 utility and a couple of interactions slapped onto it. Honestly, it’s really boring. The same applies to attack-based skills too, but the situation is far worse with spells. Fire spells in particular feel like a complete joke. Seconded.
Everything is painfully oversimplified and rigid compared to PoE1. The fact herald skills are now purely melee, and some persistent skills are even restricted to specific weapons types is just dumb. It wouldn't be so bad if some spell skills weren't being limited to specific wands and staves. With melee weapons it makes sense, those are just what those weapons do, but for spells it's silly and restrictive for the sake of being restrictive. It's the antithesis of fun. E.g you can't use the most powerful lightning skill in the game unless you want to use a stave. |

Very much agreed. I really hope they look into making skills usable by more than just one weapon type, that would open up it somewhat, but then again the skill tree is also symptomatic of this design choice.

Unfinished game is lacking in content, what a surprise.

I play Reap based caster that's melee.
And it's the most pleasant melee build I played so far. |

Completely agree.
Further, because builds use multiple skills in poe2, it feels like there are only 1-3 builds per archetype because they all recycle the same abilities. Leveling is also a problem with level-locked skills. Archetypes level with the same 1 or 2 abilities every playthrough because there is nothing else to pick until like 18+. -Quest |

I feel like things would be a lot better if the Spirit-based skills weren't part of the skill gem cap. It feels especially bad on evasion characters like Monk, because I need like 3 defensive auras just to not get 1shot constantly, which leaves very little wiggle room for other skills.
Especially with gems not being tied to weapons, so your weapon swap is often limited to a quick-switch to apply some buff, or maybe 1H vs 2H mace where they share skills, and that's it. |

I'll be very honest, I'm a straight up no-lifer who plays constantly (until i'm bored, which is about 2 weeks in POE 2)..
POE 2 has almost nothing of anything.. Let me elaborate ~ POE 2 is lacking all of the following - fun (subjective, but a popular opinion sadly) - meaningful gameplay - meaningful juicing - meaningful content - meaningful challenge - "combos" are stupid as they are often too slow and detrimental - combat is so slow it's almost intolerable - momentum removed to make combat even worse - No movement skills - Spirit is mids at best - The only good skills are the good skills from POE 1... - Performance is as bad and unpredictable as POE 1, worse even. - meaningful skill tree options - meaningful skills / supports - Life on the skill tree - Resistance on Skill tree - Boot movement speed untenable without quicksilver flask POE 2 is a very hollow and empty experience to me. It was supposed to be all kinds of things, and ended up being absolutely nothing in every single regard. More and more, i'm just slowly realizing "wait, why did they even make this game?" I will give them this, they FINALLY implemented a form of what I would deem, - Meaningful crafting The issue is the foundation of POE 2 seems to be "lets take everything that makes POE 1 great, and trash it". Nobody is here for the experience they are trying to cultivate. The "slow stupid combat" group hate endgame because combat is no longer slow and stupid. The crackhead must go fast regards (guilty) hate the game because it's too goddamn slow, the campaign being honestly nearly pornographic in it's awfulness. They have made a game that switches from one thing to the other -- effectively making both sides very unhappy EDIT: I'm also one of the few affected by my FPS getting cut in half after the 0.3.1 patch, it was cut into 1/4 during boss fights but after the first hotfix the boss rooms are now normal... so if anybody has any ideas which deity to pray to for good performance let me know, cut he fucking summoning circle didn't work Last edited by Rakie1337#5746 on Oct 4, 2025, 3:50:48 PM
