How Could You!? The POE2 Skill Tree is Broken—A Step Towards Activision Design

They did it so that early nodes close to the start would feel strong and impactful for the classes starting there, but not be so strong that other classes would feel compelled to get neighboring classes starting notables.

I'm the opposite of blastya, a witch that uses the monk starting nodes. Still works out fine imo.
"Beidat honored the pact, though Mancy wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."
I get why they would do this - it's an "easy" solution to the hard problem of balancing the passive tree.

But it's also very concerning and I would 100% like to see it done away with.

The "cool" part of PoE was always how you could combine different game elements to make unique builds.

Making the tree different for the different classes is a first step in doing away with that / moving towards the industry standard RPG / ARPG cookie-cutter classes / D4 pre-defined builds.

It's only a small step in that direction, but it's very concerning for what it could mean long term.

I made a monk and indeed he start with the sorceress tree. Not like it's a huge deal for sure but i would have prefere him to have the witch tree start. (was using chaos spells)

Only the start change it's true but it's the first place you reach when moving on another side of the tree.

Now i dont really see how they could do differently since they'll be 12 classes and 6 starting points. So idk, i just deal wiht it =)

A monk does not start on the same spot as witch or sorc at all, as much as witch or sorc don't start on the position of a monk. Monk is North East and Witch, sorc is north.
yes, you are right. Dunno why people defend this decision, but this is completely anti-generic, anti-builddiversity. Another way of forced building. Like pre-made synergies in skills (ED+contagion). It's like mini-ascendancy in a tree.

We are talking about picking a class and than travel to another class tree. So travel from monk start to the north instead of using the north east tree of the monk.

If you start with a monk, the tree you have access to is the one of the sorceress, you dont see the witch starting tree on the tree.
So you have elemental nodes and not chaos/minion nodes.

Probably later when shadow will be there you will start with the witch tree visible instead? I dont really know how that work.
Does ranger and huntress for exemple see a different tree on the sorc/witch part?
