Locking a large portion of map juicing behind Arbiter
|
Having played the league, here's my feedback on the tablets. Locking rare tablets behind beating Arbiter doesn't feel good. It's a significant amount of juice and it's all mainly just buffs for more content and drops that you can't get until you beat Arbiter.
It feels like a chore you need to do by rushing T1 maps to find all the bosses you need to kill asap before you can enjoy juicing maps. If you try to play normally by progressing map tiers and juicing along the way, like you normally would, it takes a lot longer to find the bosses. By the time you find the bosses and kill them you'll probably be like lvl95 and almost ready to quit the character/league. " Its a good thing to have this stuff locked behind achievements. This is why voidstones were such a good system. The only way to make it better is to make it solo only so you cant pay for carries. What happens is people will get to endgame, pay for carries to be able to juice harder then their character is not strong enough to do the content. So they come here and complain that the game is too hard. Being locked behind something that forces your character to have some threshold of power insures, at least a little bit, that you are ready to get the extra juice. " The current tablet modifiers don't really make the game more difficult though. There's only one modifier out of like 70 modifiers that increases difficulty "Monsters have (7—11)% increased Effectiveness". The rest of the modifiers just add more stuff to the maps. So using a 4 mod rare tablet is going to be just more loot and exp with the same mob difficulty as a 2 mod magic tablet. Increased "difficulty" for me would mean mobs get more HP and damage which only "increased effectiveness" does. Almost all the modifiers just add more of things you already have in your maps. So unless players are dying from getting swarmed, a 4 mod tablet is all pure buffs compared to a 2 mod tablet. Last edited by SaiyanZ#3112 on Dec 17, 2025, 12:58:38 PM

Lonnie, I hear what you're saying. I don't think you're wrong in concept.
But isn't the reality going to be players are now incentivized, if they can't buy a carry, to just play the cheesiest build so they can get it done ASAP? The game does NOT need more "Rich get richer" Mechanics. I am not against rewarding high level of play, just to be clear. But something needs to be done so people enjoy just playing the game no matter what part of the game they're currently at; rather than setting their sights on hitting "max" level so they can "start the real game" and find out they don't even gorram like the game. This just feels like a crap band-aid to the lvl 95-100 xp grind (which is a totally unnecessary goal anyways). Don't get lost by being so focused on the target that you forget to enjoy your surroundings.

What this game needed more of is endgame "treadmill" stepping stones like poe1 has. They added one.
I think the problem is, people watch streamers or youtube videos of guys that play 24/7 and have clips of them finding a lot of stuff and so they start to feel like they shouldn't have to do so much work to get to the same place. If you were playing the game and never experienced anyone else, any content, or talked to anyone about poe2. This kind of thing wouldn't bother you. It would give you motivation to achieve a goal. The main issue that you're having is actually trade and the economy. It has nothing to do with arbitor or juice. I wish they would add more things, I think you should get 0 tablet slots until you kill 1 pinnacle, 2 slots if you kill another, and 3 slots if you kill another. Then make them solo only. " This is how mapping used to be before they made this change with tablet mods locked behind Arbiter. Once you reach maps at lvl66 or so, you could just play the game any way you liked with all the options available. I normally would just ignore the bosses and Arbiter and just enjoy farming corrupted and cleansed zones whilst juicing to the max. There was still a little bit of stuff locked behind clearing things (breach, delirium atlas passives, etc.) but that was a small bit of juice compared to what tablet mods do. GGG removed instilling from maps, which you could do straight after the campaign if you wanted, and shifted most of that juice to tablet mods. But then they locked away those mods behind Arbiter which is such a distant goal, that you either rush it, or just ignore it and play the game with 2 mod tablets. Both choices don't feel good. See saiyan, its a good thing. Theyre giving you an incentive to interact with another part of the game you were ignoring because it served no purpose. now it does

" If I have to rush it by running T1 maps, then it's just another chore. If I play normally then I'm already done with the character by the time I reach the goal. So locking it away serves no purpose except for players who are playing more than 100hrs with multiple characters per league. It's too much power locked away in a goal that's too far away for the vast majority of players to interact with. What GGG has done is made mapping worse for players who just play one character to lvl90-lvl95 and quit. This is likely the majority of players. The system sounds good until you are the guy with HORRIBLE citadel finding luck ^^
PoE has the progression better set up, no bullshit RNG steps. At worst I have to reroll a UE fragment with harvest. And yes, I have him done. But I died 20 times. because my buil is ot good enough for endgame bosses yed. But I absolutely need teh mapping huice since my char is a mapper. i just got to t14 maps and i have 6 citadels on my screen.
They buffed the citadel spawn rate significantly. Also i cant see how you would be done with a build by the time you got to t15 maps. This shines light on another problem. Its too easy to get to high tier maps. Sometimes you just completely skip farming tiers of maps. like if you run a t1 and drop a t2 you might never run another t1. you can get lucky and skip like 10 tiers of real progression. Poe1 forced you to do at least 4-8 or so maps of each tier to get completion bonuses. Now people think theyre basically done with the game before they even get to arbitor. These problems are entirely fabricated in your own brain. They're not actual problems. They're only problems because you don't have any real problems. Or as some would say, "first world problems" You should be grateful that this is what you're complaining about and not something that is game breaking. |
