Cobra Lash and the follow-through cluster jewel change

I have to think that GGG nerfed follow-through not realizing what it would do to Cobra Lash. Please adjust to compensate in the next few days if you would - this is very depressing to the skill I have used for 5 straight leagues and it is not OP. The nerf basically halfs the damage on a totally normal setup which uses 4 medium clusters (of repeater and follow-through).

the nerf was done because pconc of bouncing also used that jewel, and lets be honest that skill was OP especially early game. cobra lash just got caught in the crossfire

nerf

"The Follow-Through Notable Cluster Jewel Passive now grants Projectiles deal 20% increased Damage with Hits and Ailments for each remaining Chain, up to 100% (previously 15% increased with no cap)"

Its a buff for all chains up to 7.

I might be miscounting but Pconc of bouncing is going to max out at 6 on most builds.

Cobra Lash has 6.2 bounces at 20/20, you can augment it with a coin to get another link, and we don't know what the exceptional gems will do

If there is a nerf here, I'm gonna need you to explain it to me because this looks like a buff.

Bouncing had 2 flat chains, plus 4 each from GMP and GVolley. One in the tree plus 2 from Fury Valve = 13 total.

people were using 3-4 jewels. its only a buff if you use just 1

theres a thread on reddit where someone did the math if you want to read more.

My point about folks not understanding the effect on Cobra Lash is made by these comments. Cobra Lash scales specifically with unused chains - most players have at least 11 and also take pierce to keep full chains through the first hit. Heck even the quality on the gem gives it +2 chains and the old helm enchant gave +3 chains.

The nerf was made and it wasn't because Cobra Lash was OP, it was as you mentioned because of bouncing and also the infinite chaining essence on quivers. The devs (like the commenters in this thread) forgot all about Cobra Lash.

Anyways, there are many easy ways to resolve this the easiest way is to quickly reconfigure Cobra Lash and add flat chaos damage and rework the quality bonus. There you go. It would also help the pitifully bad leveling experience since GGG took off the flat damage a few leagues ago.

BTW, almost every Cobra Lash player used 4 medium clusters of follow-through in case you wonder why the nerf basically killed the skill and reduced total dps by at least 40-50%. 4 clusters x 11 unused chains x 15%/unused chain = 660% where the new cap is 100%. That is 560% increased damage with hits and ailments gone.

Ok, read the discussion "As someone said, the 50% less damage assume no changes in build which means the difference will be smaller, but still very noticable."

So it scales but not quite as hard at the end game.

We're not talking about league start potential, we're talking extreme end game.

You can also reroll cluster jewels in order to farther optimize the build, you're also losing or sidegrading or upgrading most of the gems, including pconc and cobra lash.

For reference, this takes the pconc of bouncing build I'm looking at from above dot cap to above dot cap and the cobra lash build I'm looking at from 300 million dps to around 200 million dps. Thats all also before any of the stuff from the upcoming league is factored in.

Now the info we have presently would indicate you're going to want to play storm brand and get that foulgrasp support. Or perhaps you're going to build out generals cry with divine blast. Maybe you're just looking at the adjustments all wrong, maybe its just an opportunity to play something you haven't played before and work through the new end game toward your goal of beating your dps from this league.

Wow, 300 million DPS...sign me up lol. So I guess Kinetic Blast which is 14 times more played throws out 500 million dps?

200 million DPS..sign me up! 100 million DPS...sign me up! 50 million DPS...sign me up! 20 million DPS sign me up (but at least we are getting into real range).

Up to is a hard cap not per notable, so you've gone from 15% per chain * how many notables you had to 20% per chain up to 100%. (this was probably covered already but just incase it wasn't)

This is a pretty massive nerf however that particular notable was extremely busted on every single high chain projectile skill, I've used it in quite a few HC builds over the years to crutch the defensive stats.

Basically i'm hardly surprised they changed it, as tall nails go it was a very tall nail just for a few specific skills.

CL taking the sh*t again.....

It's a massive nerf, I have 105% inc dmg (7 FT) and 13 chains, with this many chains I'm locked to 1 FT as only 5 remaining chains is needed to reach cap.

Sure I can fill those sockets with other clusters/jewels but............ There's a reason why Follow Through is used with CL...

Come on GGG, really...?
Pff, who even plays Standard?

Sure, but in your scenario you're saying "it goes to zero" instead of "it steps down to the next most potent node", not "we didn't unwind the opportunity cost to take those 6 medium clusters, we should do that and check our options", its just "my build is wrecked, please don't wreck my build". and its not even that wrecked, and it isn't even like you can't apply dot cap to full screens with pennance brand for fractions of cost of the build each of you are talking about. It isn't like ice trap doesn't scale way harder than either of those builds for way less investment.

Also, I'm going to explain this to y'all again, we haven't seen all the new gems and the ones we have seen are pretty outrageous. The foulborn one looks like it maybe might quadruple the output from a stormbrand autorecaller build, or more. I get that getting nerfed feels bad man, but you're getting so many new toys. I'm pretty sure with moderate investment you can hit dot cap using that hextoad support using a single poison. Go look at the new stuff.
