The -15% exp penalty is obnoxiously bad outdated design.
" Wrong. Later on you can grind 5 hours just fine with top end gear build and skill, but then a bad desynch or DC or RNG 8k crit happens and you die, instantly losing 15% exp and your entire progress for 5 hours. Having to lose 5 hours of progress over a lucky crit or server issues is stupid once you start getting only .5-1% exp an hour in the later levels of a grinder game. |

" OK, so far, I *like * the death penalty. I want to make that clear. I have never been attracted to hardcore modes in games, and this "halfway hardcore" feature does make the game more tense and exciting, which I like. However, I agree this will make many players quit. And any feature in the game that is going to make a significant number of players quit should be reviewed by the devs, end of story. It is in everyone's interest that the player base remains as large as possible, as this means more profit, and hence more new content more often, better servers, everything. To want the game to stubbornly refuse to change or evolve on ANY front (as some people seem to), even if it costs a tons of players, is an unreasonable stance that helps no one. Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

" Call me mentally challenged then. Go on, I dare you. Moved this to feedback, and I'll be keeping an eye on the level of civility. And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Feb 5, 2013, 6:40:13 AM

I think moderators have better things to do than mocking players.
And dont even answer i will not read your typical thrashtalk. OP is right, high EXP penatly add nothing to game (especially with current lack of any balance in endgame where you can die in 101 ways and only one is your real fault and rest is too big excel numbers making meele almost unplayable, idiotic dmg spikes, lag, desync, freezes on skill usage and 12332423 other things). Ofc itn not important bacause game is flawless and must be HARDCORE!!111 'i dare you' - LOL Can i touch you? you so awesome rotfl. srsly... /facepalm " haha good one. " Sometimes you're unlucky. Not you specifically, but the general "you". Sometimes it's bad luck due to server connection issues (which will hopefully be less of a problem after tonight's maintenance). Sometimes it's bad luck due to game mechanics. Sometimes you just plain mess up and die. Yes, it sucks to be punished for having bad luck, but removing the punishment just removes another aspect of skill from this game. If the EXP penalty is removed, what's to stop everyone from making complete glass cannon builds with 0 defense? Without the penalty, those builds could actually be pretty effective. If you drop a portal every so often you don't lose any progress from dying and the only time that's wasted is a couple loading screens. No death penalties leads to everyone just zerging down the content in glass cannon builds, like what happened during D3's launch with glass cannon wizards and demon hunters rushing through Inferno. I'm fine dealing with a few moments of bad luck, even if it means I lose hours of work, because I enjoy playing the game. I don't fixate on the next percentage of exp or even the next level. I play this game to blow up cool monsters and collect their loot. Leveling is just something that happens along the way so my numbers can go up. This topic is the equivalent of someone posting because they got an unlucky affix with their Exalted Orb, so Exalted Orbs should only be allowed to roll great affixes, because otherwise you lose all the time you spent earning the Orb, and it's not fair to lose that just because of randomness with the roll :( Randomness and deaths with a penalty are both part of the ARPG genre. If you find that frustrating, then I don't think this is the game for you. |

" Dying in 1-2 hits and wasting time running back is a lot of time wasted compared to killing things a bit slower but 99% safe and in cruise control mode. Exp loss isn't needed. Last edited by Fluttershypony#7753 on Feb 5, 2013, 6:52:48 AM

" Death penwatly without ability to recover some of loss (like in D2, Titan Quest) is not part of the genre (and never was). You want death penatly? Fine... why there is not ability to recover for example half of exp loss if you go back and reclaim corpse or smth like in D2/TQ? There is only one purpose on harsh death penatly in PoE... to make ppl not reach 99lvl in one month. Its add nothing more to the game only frustration when you lose progress of couple hours totally without you fault (and in current state of the game its 95% of cases). " By making it fun for casuals, noob players means making it less fun for main audience. Hardcore players. If you didnt realize it by now, this game is free to play. This is not blizzards game where the major goal is to make billions and target to every kind of audience. Poe was made for hardcore, not casuals. Not everything suits to everyone. You know ...
