308 jewelers and no 6 socket

I just talked myself into burning all my fusings to go for a 5-6 link. So I went to town on this chest with over 300 jeweler orbs to get it to 6 before linking them.
308 later ... im out and im pretty pissed off. ive 6 socketed about 6-7 other items and has never taken more than 130. now i have no jewelers period and sure as hell dont want to use fusings on it lol??? is it bugged? i didnt even think it was possible to go that many times w/o a 6... Well, if we assume that the item in question can get six sockets at all, and that each reroll has an even chance of getting a particular number of sockets (hah!), we have a (5/6)^308 = 1 in 2,442,439,318,663,711,298,561,195 chance of not getting six sockets in any of those.
Therefore, we can safely conclude at least one of three things: 1. That particular item simply can't get that many links. Have you checked its /itemlevel? 2. The odds of getting a six-socket item off of a jeweler's orb are a lot less than one in six. One in a hundred odds, by contrast, make it possible not to get any six-socket items in 300 rolls about 5% of the time; 50-50 odds show up at around 1 in 433. 3. You were remarkably unlucky. 351 now ... can the damn thing be bugged? ive had 5 socket about 6 times now ... id have just quit rolling it but its dual mf with 900 armor in HC ... its a pretty damn good chest.

Based on OP it's easier to find a 6 sox armor then turn it to rare/reroll its mods than use jewelers.

I did a hundred jewelers on a bow once, couldn't even get 5 sockets. (yes, I verified the iLvl before hand)

I rolled a 6 socket with just like 4 jewelers once, so that cancels out your 300 somewhat. I think the average is maybe around 100-200 orbs.
Also, considering the impossibility (hyperbole) of getting 6 linked sockets using fusings (or jewelers), there's not much point of going for 6 sockets when 5 is quite sufficient. "Not at all. If the chance of any given link spawning on an item is independent, then you're twice as likely to get a 5-linked 6 slot item than a 5-linked 5 slot item since there are twice as many ways for a 5-link to spawn on a 6-slot item. |
