308 jewelers and no 6 socket

The time of the original post from now, quite the necro!

Now its explained why they dont share the chances rate.

The best value out of 6 sockets is certainly not exchange it for jewelers. I would rather waste an alchemy on the 6 socket one and attempt to trade it for more than 10 jewelr and 1 alchemy... tahts for free.

Now, people complaining about Fusings not giving them max links... imagine if the odds are the same.

2012 will be a looooooooooong year.

Its easier to drop an armor with 6 sockets in x chances, than to roll 6 sockets in x jewelrys...

Pretty sure it's equivalent, actually. However, there seems to be an abnormally high rate of 6 sockets at vendors..
i just burned over 800 jewlers in an attempt to 6socket a ilevel63 item, i failed, and its making me want to quit the game...
Ya just burned through 800 jewelers too, think I'm gonna just sell the chest and cut my losses.

750 jewelers after and best was 4 sockets.

It's rigged.

A 1socket item can roll in 3 ways; red, blue and green. There are 3 combinations for a 1socket.

With two sockets it becomes more complicated. You now have 3x3 possible color combinations, and all of those can happen with one link or with no links. So we're at 3x3x2 = 18 combinations for a 2socket.

Do three sockets and it starts to become a nightmare. You have 3x3x3 possible color combinations both linked and unlinked, i.e. 3x3x3x2 = 54. In addition, you have the two cases where either sockets 1-2 are linked or sockets 2-3 are linked, and you have three of each of these since the one unlinked socket in these cases can be three different colors. So there's another 3x3x3x2 = 54. So then we're at 3x3x3x2x2 = 108 total combinations for three sockets.

With four sockets it's just getting ridiculous. Now we have 3x3x3x3x2 = 162 for one that is either 4linked or not linked. Then we have the partially linked cases: 2linked = 3x3x3x3, there can be 3 of these( 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 ), so 3x3x3x3x3 = 243. Then we have one possible case of two 2linked( 1-2 and 3-4 ), which is another 3x3x3x3 = 81. Then we have two cases of 3linked( 1-2-3 or 2-3-4 ) of which there can be 3 each because of the unlinked socket. 3x3x3x3x2 = 162. So then we're at 3x3x3x3x2x2 = 648 combinations for a 4socket.

A pattern emerges, as it seems we can just add another x3 and another x2 for every additional socket. That means 5sockets gives 3^5x2^3 = 1944 combinations.

6sockets then gives 3^6x2^4 = 11664 combinations.

So the total amount of configurations would then be 14385. The chance to get a 6socket should then be 11664/14385 = 81%. Chance to get a 1socket should be 0.02% or 1:5000. In conclusion: We have been tricked!!!!!!

( sorry, too much free time)

I just talked myself into burning all my fusings to go for a 5-6 link. So I went to town on this chest with over 300 jeweler orbs to get it to 6 before linking them.

308 later ... im out and im pretty pissed off. ive 6 socketed about 6-7 other items and has never taken more than 130.

now i have no jewelers period and sure as hell dont want to use fusings on it lol???

is it bugged? i didnt even think it was possible to go that many times w/o a 6...

If you think this is bad just wait till you try to link the 6 sockets. I've put upwards of 900+ fusings into items to link all the sockets and got jack shit for the effort...probably why I don't play anymore.
