Act 8 Doedre the Vile fight is utter garbage

bladefall is mechanically strong but my stats were awful. I had tooltip like 3.5k dps, about 40% of it was elemental (hatrred + ash) with 0 penetration.

https://youtu.be/qjM1vzaePVo (might take some time to proccess)

Here ya go. 2.5k dps, namelock melee (for 70% of fight).

I risked my hardcore character doing this for us all.

Gear is still unchanged: you can check the character- "untainted_myth"

no aoe (can't even do adds of the add phase)

made a portal just in case but didn't even use it.

Guy has lots of endurance charges but is half naked so it balances out, nothing really out of ordinary. lvl 58 might be 1 or 2 levels higher, life pool total not too high for a marauder at this level, this fight don't even really need to worry about resistances. The gear requirement, yet another thing you gotta balance your resources with while leveling, is laughable.

Gear if you don't wanna bother checking
Spoiler

no gloves, no chest

put in brutality like 2/3rds of way through to speed it up... if you can do this fight for 40 seconds you can do this fight for 40 minutes.

This is not the case with doedre 2. Try dodging for 2 minutes in doedre 2, accumulate 10 stack all debuffs and try to win without dying.
That's why you DONT let debuffs stack to 10...

You're like saying fire needs to be nerfed because it burned down a forest after you set fire to it. Doh.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.
Of all the act bosses to fight I find this one is not fun to play and the reward sucks for those of us who die and lose all our hard earned points. Sure it's great for the HC super fast POE players but the beginners only get discouraged with this one.

Sucked the fun right out of the game :(

Ugh.

act 8 doedre is not an act boss

and the fight is very well made mechanical fight. closing the valve removes shit on the floor and gives you a breather (and even gives a tiny window before she gathers herself up to dps her)

probably my favorite fight design in the whole game, along with kira/garukhan fight
I have to agree with the OP.
Up until this point every boss seemed balanced and fair. Then I get to this fight.
My bezerker is a high armor, high health build, who can tank most bosses fine taking a large amount of hits and knocking the bossess into a corner.
I get to Doedre and I start beating her ass, then she warps off, those red bubbles appear, they are unavoidable, and I move about trying to get her. Then in about 3 seconds, I have x10 debuff, I just notice the status on me and then rip in less then a second from full health.
I'm not even sure what killed me, looked like the bubbles did, or maybe something happened while I was debuffed, sure as hell didn't think to use the valve again, as it appears to be just another trigger that activates the boss like every other boss trigger.

In short, this feels like a cheap death mechanic, I do not want to feel like I have to research each boss before fighting them - this is a page from game design 101, the game should intuitively explain its own mechanics without the need for research.

I read some other posts to the tune of "It felt cheap the first time I died but now I get it." that's probably true, but you're missing the point - the battle should have ques to indicate what to do.

To beat this boss, you really want a certain build of character to have a high chance of success (high dps, high speed, curse reduction?) and you need to have "background knowledge" of how to fight the damn boss to win because of the valve, and you need a bunch of luck because of the random element of spawning debuff bubbles of death.

Please fix.

I'm quitting POE for a while, actually games altogether, maybe I'll write some music, stare at the clouds or something - take care lads.
Not that this post will change anything, since if GGG was going to rebalance Doedre sewer fight, they would have done it by now, but...

I have beaten the full game about 30-40 times with every playstyle, and have a good sense of where the balance is wonky. This fight is poorly implemented, and is very overtuned for where it is in the story. It's a very unrewarding, boring, time consuming experience, and you aren't winning any fans with this bossfight.

She's tanky, very little room to maneuver, Nearly instantaneous teleports, 2 second window for Doedre to turn the valve back open, and she is extremely gibby even with huge chaos res.

Considering how pathetically easy fights like Piety 1-2 are for where they are in the story, it's telling Doedre the Vile might really be mistakenly overtuned.

I really like this game, and as developers, you guys are saints. But listen to the feedback from your fans that aren't L33T 3P33N internet compensators.

I thought exackly the same thing untill like yesterday. I killed hear easly with my current character and i was loke "what the hell?".

So i thnik that this fight should be a test-spot for builds. If you have hard time - you are doing something wrong.
I agree in the sense that some builds can beat her more efficiently than others, but she's still marginally more powerful than everything that came before her, to a ridiculous degree.

And if you follow the strategy intended to kill her, the fight ends up being way too long and boring. And the simple fact that everything can be cheese with town portals and infinite respawns makes anything manageable to a big degree. I will not tp spam.

And the only reason you can spawn outside the room at all is because GGG wants to cater to both casual and elite players (or at least that's all I can surmise for such a stupid design). But then it just turns into most people zergrushing the boss until they die, since there's no real consequence for it.

It all boils down to total balance of skills/builds/PVM, and the fact is, some builds are so broken, GGG just ends up supercharging the mobs and bosses. Theorycrafters be damned, as at this point, it feels like a self imposed nerf not to play meta and read buildguides. Because you're damn right some builds are worse than others when people theorycraft. But making everything but the top builds impossible to finish the game with, it makes theorycrafting a bad idea.

And I don't want to be shoehorned into playing a certain way (like a meta build/playstyle) like D3 does. Arpg's are about the players own creativity and self expression. If it wasn't, i'd be playing a game with much better mechanical combat design.

Probably one of the most BS bosses in the game, and it's not even an end of act boss. I had:

2629 life
227 energy shield
1349 mana
mind over matter
arctic armor (probably should have turned this off)
additionally I had 4 hallowed life flasks, some with instant healing, and a sanctified mana flask that restores 1050 mana
TWO of my flasks had curse immunity, which does fok all to the curses this boss throws at you

Character: Witch. Attack spell: Glacial Cascade
Support: Stone Golem
cwdt + immortal call

I died 4 times zerging her. It is utter bullshit. I wasn't even on SSF, just standard Abyss.

edit: oh I had +40% positive chaos resist too! Yes, I went out of my way to purchase two very good uniques that boosted my chaos to what I thought was an acceptable level for act 8.

Wait you can change the fight by turning the valve? How are we even supposed to know that? I started the fight and there was so many damn explosions all over the area that all I had time for was dodging the damn things.

This is the question that makes "Act 8 Doedre the Vile fight utter garbage", in my opinion. A more recent time I did this fight I just happened to notice that the valve still highlighted when my mouse happened to move over it. When I activated it again, all the BS on the screen disappeared. WTF, "how was I supposed to know that!?" was my reaction.

edit: For example, instead of a wheel to turn, it could be a big lever. As charges build up the lever bumps up. Which would provide some kind of clue. As it currently is I could see someone going through the fight dozens of times without noticing that the valve wheel can be turned again.
