Item Rarity - a stat no one likes

I've never cared much for magic find myself, but the game has way bigger problems at the moment. Magic find is not one of them.

so if you dont like magic find stats, then dont use them?

i mean, lets say you took the RT passive, and you get gear with accuracy and crit chance..

what do you do? dont use the gear or roll new stats on it.. not come to the forum to say they should remove the stats right?

Things with "increased" and "decreased" in the tooltip are additive ... where as "More" or "Less" are multiplicative ...
Magic find sucks because it forces people to go cookie-cutter/"best" builds so they can afford more MF(HC). So it damages experimentation to a degree.

It sucks because it feels mandatory and not using it is a big disadvantage compared to others. Just like enfeeble is mandatory for melee for killing brutus/kole on cruel+.

I have always and will always dislike MF gear. It causes more problems than it solves and though GGG has done almost everything right with PoE item rarity is not one of them. Though this is my opinion only and just as many or more may disagree.

Has GGG stated their thoughts on item rarity as a stat somewhere?

I like IIC and IIQ.

You have to sacrifice other stats to have increased loot chance/quality.
A choise you have to make yourself, isn't it wonderful?
Um speak for yourself. It was quite nice building a full magicfind character in D3. In PoE you can't really do the same since you focus on subpar uniques to get maximum rarity... which is nice.

It means you can increase your item finding greatly by wearing gear that is no where near as efficient... encouraging players to do easier content for gear you've outleveled or challenging content with your subpar rarity gear.
Rarity sucks anyways, it's all about the Quantity. I also don't mind these stats, I like collecting other gear and once I feel comfortable with my build, flipping out for farming safer areas. That's just me though.

Hi,

you make a clear and valid point about the beloved gear-set and the problem with farming in endgame and yeah, I would agree with that, IF it was the one and only way to go... but fortunately it is not.

First off, you can have a massive iiq/iir-gearset in your stash for your character that you use when you farm lower and easier content for maps (fellshrine ie.). While it is true that you will not find any or at least only very little items that are either tradeable for absurd prices (except for some uniques) or could tweak your endgame char, those can be turned in for currency at the vendor. The recipes allow you to create wealth from even the most worthless rares, which will in turn help you to gear your endgame char even further.

Second, you could make a char specifically designed for farming low-lvl content which will even have the chance to drop valuable orbs while farming (in turn for no maps, but maybe you don´t need those) and still having the same advantages as in point 1.

Third, you could use a good iir/iiq-gearset to farm lower maps when you can easily beat higher maps. Therefor you would not need to replace your beloved powerfull items but could still farm in high-lvl content.

So you see, there are ways around the scenario you described. Maybe don´t be too focused on your mainchar, this is no MMORPG so maybe change your habit of playing and your point of view just a little bit and you will see possibilities where there seemed to be none.

So let me sum up your paragraphs
1) Loosing your hard earned non-mf gear is sad but ...
2) You could always abandon it to your stash instead of a vendor
3) You could use mf at low levels instead of high, because that solves the issue
4) You can find a shitty gear with high mf, and just not do high end content with it
5) Aren't all of these solutions great

how would you mf haters want to have it then?
1. removing mf with droprates still the same?
2. removing mf and raising droprates?

if 1. what is the difference from choosing not to stack mf? removing the option for those who are willing to invest in it?

if 2. why dont you ask them to make the game easier instead? mf is clearly not the problem if this is the case

I think most mf haters prefer number 1, but are willing to settle for number 2 if it will make mf lovers happy. The difference is that the mf haters have to play in an economy with mf lovers. This is like living in a world where everybody makes 60k a year in some unspecified currency, but you personally only make 20k a year, but all you have to do to change this is do a job you like slightly less, which is not inherently a bad job, but every day you go to work you can't help but feel that you would have been happier somewhere else.

For me item quantity is worth more than rarity. To my knowledge rarity doesn't affect sockets, links or orb chances. I would rather have 1000 drops instead of 750. That gives me more chances at 5 or 6 links instead of double or triple links.

But if you want to stay in the D3 mindset of more rares then that's your business. I personally see the real item hunt is chasing number of sockets, combination of colors and correct links to be the real item hunt. You can tweak your passive tree to accommodate stats on gear, but it cannot help you with sockets and links.

Couldn't agree more. I've hated it since the d2 days. I think the idea is to get players to make a dedicated 'farmer'. But I don't want to play a farmer. I want to play my main, have fun killing monsters efficiently with the build I devised, and occasionally find a nice item.
