Tencent has Invested in Grinding Gear Games
Haha, naive fools if you don't think this is a bad thing, part of a bigger conglomerate, uniqueness, personality out the door. First the Xbox now this. From a serious, metodical game that revished in playerskill is now a one-screen, one-click, stressed out speed-fest with no brain. My investment in this just shifted, hello Wolcen! Goodbye PoE! You have to know when it's time to move on, now is that time.

Why do people assume the worst every single time.
I think this game still has many good years ahead. See you guys at 10.0 release. |

I'm completely done now. No more supporter packs, no more playing PoE.
Now GGG, if you come back and tell us this is all some sort of late New Zealand April Fool's, then we can forgive and move on. But as it stands right now, Tencent owns you. Chris, you can guarantee nothing, because you are no longer the final say in the direction PoE is heading. You gave up that choice. Regardless of how much you try to calm the masses, the truth of this is still here: you sold out GGG and PoE to a Chinese company. Tencent has ruined other games before (maximized profit at the expense of the players and the community). History will repeat itself. ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ ▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒░░░░░░░░░░░░░ cipher_nemo ░░░░░░░░░░░░░▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ Last edited by cipher_nemo#6436 on May 21, 2018, 10:12:33 AM

Crowd fund the game. Sell it to China. Profit 35 c
Nice strats Chris. And to all international players, we are not the majority of the playerbase. There are more chinese players than rest of the world. Even if the financial support from international playerbase will be greatly reduced do to this event, they will still profit 35 c from the majority of the chineese players. Aaaaaand they can do whatever they want on the chineese client, HC resurections, Non cosmetic mystery boxes, inventory enlargement etc. From a buisness perspective, thats friggin geniuous. GG GGG Seems like u dont need our support anymore. |

More lying straight to our face. Oh, they just invested in us, guys!
This totally won't impact our development guys, even though we are literally owned by them and legally need to comply with their wishes. I can't believe we're getting such a slap in the face from a company like GGG. Selling out and trying to play it off like nothing after we've literally kept your game alive with our support over the years when you were truly a tiny indie studio. Consider my confidence and trust in the game completely gone after that. Last edited by 111derivi#0518 on May 21, 2018, 10:22:41 AM

Shouldn't the title say "Tencent has acquired Grinding Gear Games" though? I'd hardly call 80% an investment. Unless clearly stated otherwise, anything above 50% is an acquisition in my book, for better or worse.
It doesn't matter if Tencent's grip is loose or firm initially, it's the fact that it's there at all that is troubling. I still trust that Chris knows what he's doing, I just hope there will be enough like-minded folks going forward, as much I hope I'm not wrong. Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done. Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league. Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave. Last edited by Xavathos#5130 on May 21, 2018, 10:23:23 AM

" And that is the exact attitude that lead to our current situation. You believe that just because you paid some money, you would be the center of attention and allowed to design the game on your own. Truth is, by your attitude you destroy the game, as no game can survive from a few nerds and their "investments". POE has catered to hardcore gamers for the past two years now, breach meta every single time except once. Did you not see that GGG was trying to save the game, by adding Bestiary? No game can survive if just a few thousand play, do you even realize how much it costs to run a company like they do, especially since NZ is anything but cheap. They might have bills of a hundred K each month, there is no way they make a lot of money by keeping the game hidden from the public. It was a mistake to not add an in game AH, it was a mistake to focus on people like you, that insult the company as soon you don´t get your wish. I always said, casuals are those that pay the bills for a company and this is still the truth. It is more important to have a few hundred thousand casuals, than one thousand nerds. Tencent is the only escape route for them, I fully understand why they had to do it and my hope is, that the game will become more accessible now. It needs to grow and it can not do so, if we only have breaches, no trading and an alienation of casual players. |
