I don't understand why people would defend this. The ability to respec is in the game. It exists. Why force people to spend hours farming gold just to use this feature? It doesn't add to the game, it detracts from it. What other people do with their characters does not affect your experience in the least.
Do you feel better knowing that "Billy" just spent 3 hours farming gold to respec because he decided he wanted to go a different route? How does that make your personal game experience better?

It was my impresion that it would be almost free
Was hyped about it
It would also help massively with boss fights, if you could respec quickly towards a certain boss
Or even take it a step further
Lets us save passive skill tree templates
I don't see any benefit to limiting it
It would also help players struggle less against bosses

But you could still do that if it was free, it would just be more tedious without templates

Yeah. Let us bind out builds to hotkeys, so we can swap them around every attack.
Yeah, no. This is precisely where cancer starts. Switching a build should have non-trivial cost exactly so that people won't be "optimizing" against specific enemies (and later complain that the game became too easy).
Even a lackluster "modern ARPG" game such as D4 doesn't have freely switchable builds (before anyone says that respeccing skills is free in D4: skills aren't where your build ends in D4).

I don't think it should go that far. I think it should be free, but I don't think people should be respeccing for boss fights. I think it should reset your instance every time you respec to prevent people from doing just this.

Honestly I agree. I have an idea; make the cost low enough so people can clear let's say one or two maps and be able to afford like 3-4 points of respec even at late game, that way it's not free but you'll be able to say players did work for it and invested their time, what do you say?

Not like that would be hard to solve
"Cannot switch while in combat"
Don't have hot key for it etc
This would also still be possible if the respec was free
Only difference is that it would be more tedious, as I already mentioned
Anyway. Not a hill I'll want to die on
I wouldn't mind myself
But cheaper or free respec is fine with me
