Why does body armor come with a negative move speed modifier?

The game is already very slow and moving through maps takes a good amount of time so i find it odd that equipment you always will have on reduces your speed by upto 5%.

I know souls games tie gear weight to roll weight mechanics but i don't see how permanently reducing player move speed is the same and seems like a thing the game does to punish the player just for existing.

It's a legacy holdover from POE 1 that never made sense to begin with.

Body armour and shields both have a hidden movement speed penalty. It's weird.

because dungeons and dragons is pretty much the god father of all fantasy/adventure games

and designers just sort of start with d&d and add their own "skin" over it

also why are monsters so damn fast in this game?
i wanted to opt out of a fight.. or "disengage" if you will.. and i couldnt, i couldnt outroll or outrun the damn monster. it followed me.. forever back to the start of the map. it forced me to kill it. i couldnt have let it live if i wanted to

It really needs to go. Nobody is making a body armor choice based off of the movement speed malus. Get rid of it.
Because there's a general vibe that 'light armor' should be more mobile.
thematically it makes sense.

but come on, this is a vestigial mechanic that does not make sense in poe2. if you can have enough armor to withstand one shots. ok thats fine. keep the ms penalty.

but in poe2 you cant. please get rid of it. also dont give a bullshit reason "if you're melee you can take a passive node to remove this penalty" bullshit. you're forcing players to fix a problem that you created.

one shots? armor is amazing against burst dmg and it 100% justifies ms penalty. it did so in poe1 as well.

sorry i really learn to doubt you a huge lot after reading this comment.

you ever heard of kriparrian? the only guy who finished the hardest version of d3 on hardcore before blizzard nerfed it to the ground.

he games for a living, and in his recent "poe2 review" he did give a lot of criticism on the game balance. one of them on how you still get one shot even with tons of defences.

so yeah. i cant take you seriously after this.

because this is how it has been in every ARPG.

Dumbest argument I have ever seen.

Child sacrifice was a common practice for a very long time.
Should we bring it back because that's how it had always been? Maybe my carrots will grow better.
Body armour with just armour even slows by 8%
