Why does body armor come with a negative move speed modifier?

Well, while heavy armour should affect the speed of a person wearing it, there is STR requirement for armour in poe, so having enough str implies that you are ready to use that armour.

"Use" may mean "put on and move" and may mean "put on and move without any restrictions". So it would make sense to either remove restrictions if you have required str or make some str threshold where restrictions will be removed, for instance 1.3x of required or +30 flat.

Because f* you, that's why!

Now go get those Orbs in the corner while you can hardly move or get one-shot fingered to death!

See, as soon as you start digging down into the "realistic realm" you start to notice the holes of "It has to be this way because".

We need to just remove all teleports in the game, and remove every gap closer from monk skills or any others I don't know about, then make all spells require accuracy past 4m.

Every time spark hits anything metal it should dissipate some of its damage as well, if not the entire projectile from the loss of charge.

If there is chilled ground and you use a fire aoe the chilled ground should disappear. Earthquake should knock enemies down and break terrain. Getting hit while frozen should kill all monsters in 1 hit. Lightning skills should cause ignite if they do enough damage.

If you use an aoe attack you should recieve damage if youre standing in the radius. If you're in a party you should take damage from your party members abilities.

And finally you should be ordinary Joe fighting other ordinary Joes over some patch of land.

except the games reality is reversed

both my boots have 25% move speed on them
the only penalty i get is from chest

i put on heavier boots with armor and im faster -> 25% move speed
i put on my paper slippers with pure energy shield and im slower -> 21.2%

just no

edit : added image showing my issue

heavy boots == faster movement ?

heavy boots == canceling chest armor speed penalty ?

edit 2 :

solved

change in boots drops int which was required to wear the chest piece
thus dropping the speed penalty because chest piece its now offline

side note : im red green-color blind

Lets run a test. First, run a mile in a t-shirt. Then run a mile in a full suit of plate armor. Which was faster?

Its this way because it's based in reality, not just because other games do it.

When was the last time you cast lightning or fireballs out of your hands? Fought giant monsters? Teleported?

The game is not based in reality. You don't just arbitrarily get to pick and choose and use that as a valid argument lol.

Armour physics HAVE to be real.....but everything else does not.
Starting anew....with PoE 2

is it that hard to understand?
Step 1 is to self reflect.
The move speed penalty for strength users makes very little sense thematically or mechanically. Not only must we use the worst defensive layer in the game (armour) but we also get penalised for the privilege. Also from a thematic standpoint, you're telling me my warrior can leap through the air and create earthquakes, has Giant's Blood running through his veins, but walking normally is too hard? C'mon guys..
