And yet it is a difficulty component. Its what makes reaching lvl 100 difficult and not just a guaranteed outcome from playing a few days.
The death penalty makes the game EASIER, not harder.
A player fighting a new boss should expect to die three or four times to learn the mechanics, and then need to execute the dodge rolls, movement, proper skill timing, etc... to clear it. There should always be a significant (25% or so) chance of death.
Maps should always be ready to throw a curve ball of packs and rares that can kill you. You should not be able to regularly go ten maps without a death unless you are an elite player - and the game should never be balanced around them.
But the death penalties prevent the devs from designing content that hard. Instead the "difficulty" is simply a time sink grinding easy, no-risk content.
If the price to pay for no XP penalty is a much much harder game, I'll gladly pay the price !

Well yeah, all this game does is stress you out. It isn't fun, a game shouldn't be causing these kinds of reactions out of a player lol

There are different types of players. Some want a game that functions more like a movie you need to click through. Where others enjoy games with challenge that requires effort to overcome obstacles. GGG makes games for the 2nd type.
You have it backward. The XP penalty and map loss make players risk-averse.
It pushes them to do content they can click through semi-afk, because the cost of dying is too great to be worth the risk.
The hardest video games have no death penalty at all.
Can you imagine playing Super Meat Boy if every time you died the game moved you back a level?

The death penalty of losing XP is currently too high.
I suggest a debuff on future XP gained instead that needs to be worked off. It's a penalty that doesn't remove work done in the past because of one mistake.
Very frustrating losing so much XP. I have to run high-level maps to gain XP, which is super dangerous. Losing XP is a disaster at this point.

It has nothing to do with difficulty. Anything in the game would not change in difficulty. Its an artificial progress block that comes from days where games didnt have enough content to keep players on their toes.
Ppl are not obsessed with level 100. They care about the fact that every level accounts for raw character power. If the levels 91-100 would not contribute any skill points or other bonuses at all noone would care. This whole discussion would stop instandly if this would happen. However players that like the XP loss, for whatever reason, also denie any other option. Removing it is a no, adding a seperate mode without it is a no, removing the bonuses from the last 10 levels is a no too. So even options that would mean that hard core players are untouched in tehre "achievment" endevor are denied. This leads me to believe that some players simply fear for there artificial status that noone cares about. I know these kind of discussions for various topics and they all look just like this one.
The hard core player base wouldnt leave. noone plays the game saying "oh great they have XP loss on death". They play the game because game play factors like content and variation keep them going.
If it has nothing to do with difficulty then why are u complaining at all?? I see nothing but casuals complaining about the difficulty of leveling past lvl 90+ so in fact it is a difficulty component like it or not.
Sure those few extra levels provide a bit extra but like i said its not a make or break for any build and if ur build cant do well without them guess what.. Ur build sucks which is exactly what xp loss and progress block will tell you, it incentivizes people to do better and improve their build or be satisfied with the lvl they have, most farming builds never reach lvl 100 and were never made with lvl 100 in mind.
And yes many hardcore players will actually leave, i have left several other games just because it was too ez and provided no challenge including D4 which lasted about 2-3 weeks. Im now on my 13th year playing poe which is a pretty huge difference in my opinion

That is so wrong on litterally every level.
Having no penalty is what leads you to people just mindlessly afking trough the game.
If dying has no penalty then nothing is a challenge, cause you can just smash your head against the wall until you eventually hit level 100 anyway.
The fact that you lose progression on dying forces you to pay attention and avoid dying. This is obvious to everyone who isnt a moron.
The problem is that most of us dont understand the problem because we die maybe once per day, while theres a bunch of babies that cant get past lvl 60 because they die every 2nd map they attempt and then blame the game.

This statement literally says it all.
You want a game with no death penalty so you can push content your character isn't equipped to even handle yet.
If you're dying left and fucking right you're dong something wrong.
This games death penalty is there for this very reason..
That goes against the very nature of the player competitiveness the game is after. This is the not the game for you if that is not what you want.
One death every 10 maps because you decide to do a 25 magic pen on top of triple damage conversion and soulstealer modifiers is on you. People bitched about it for a decade on POE where you could lose up to 60% there.. and they will never remove it.
Ever. No matter how much you cry about it.

Ok then they should just add an easier difficulty league that people can choose with no penalties for death. That way everyone is happy and your gameplay isn't affected at all.
