Is the problem Jonathan?

"
I watched the last interview and honestly the thing that stood out the most is how defensive Jonathan was and how reluctant he was to accept the feedback he was given. I currently have 620 hours in POE2 and honestly I am still not having fun. Why am I still playing? Because I really want this game to succeed and I do see the potential. Unfortunately, it seems like there is some type of road block within GGG that is prohibiting the team from making the changes it needs to make the game attractive to the masses. This is not a personal shot at Jonathan, he is very likeable person, but sometimes we let our egos in the way of getting things done. Our way is not always the right way even though we may think it is. Listen to your players GGG. Below is some feedback I would like to include, mostly about the campaign leveling experience as I know there has been a lot of feedback about endgame/mapping already:

1. Leveling is not rewarding, the character progression is too slow. The build progression is gated by a lack of spirit gems dropping and skill gems dropping. I have noticed that level 7 and 8 skill gems barely drop. Also again in the late 30s.

2. Jeweler Orbs are too rare and this ties into my first point about build progression being too slow.

3. Mob damage is still too high. If the average player does not pick a Meta build like LS they found online, they will die and they will die a lot. Dying is not fun, getting one shotted is not fun.

4. There is no pathing in narrow areas and mobs will swarm you and trap you in. There is no dodge rolling out, you are just dead.

5. There is no build diversity. You are forced to play a meta build to have any type of fun. What is the point of all these support gems, skills and ascendancies if everything outside of the few Meta builds does terrible damage. Why is fire so bad?

6. Drops are not exciting. In other games you are excited to kill the next mob to see what drops, in POE2 you are killing mobs hoping for a spirit gem. Its sad. I know this has been brought up, but GGG apparently ran sims and they think its good so they are just going to increase boss drops. GGG your sims are wrong. Again, listen to your players.

I can't stress how bad the campaign leveling experience feels. I love to make alts and run the campaign an abnormal amount of times. Its just not fun. If it is not fun for someone that has put in 600+ hours, how do you think it will be fun for a casual player? Casual players will not play this game in its current state. I know this is pre-release, that is why I hope my feedback is received with an open mind and it is understood that I want the best for this game.

Most certainly, yes.

My friends and I have been playing path of exile since the beta, and even we're doubting GGG at the moment. They've consistently been our favorite studio over the last decade until they let POE stagnate and released that mess of a sequel.

All of this coincides with the departure of Chris Wilson and Jonathon taking the reins. I'm almost convinced, especially after the Zizaran interview, that he's the main culprit behind all of the things that have gone sideways the last few years. Something needs to change, and it needs to change soon.
NO. THe problem is 1% of "POE 1 veterns" who tuned out of everything they said before EA and are colored shocked when the game is nothing like POE 1.
Fascinating how the split is such a stark contrast between those with little to no financial support in the way of supporter packs siding with PoE 2 and those who have donated hundreds if not thousands of dollars being disappointed by PoE 2

Even more interesting is the way the PoE 2 supporters talk down to the financial backbone of the company.

That must be difficult for you. This whole thing must really be difficult for you. I wish I could help you through this time but there's no hope for you, I fear.

Yall are so creepy with posts like these.

Have you ever heard a New Zealander speak before? It's how the whole island sounds.

My dude who tf are you quoting here? You can't just put quotes around your sentences and expect everyone to take what you're saying more seriously as a result.

Real talk this shit is disgusting. The fact that it's "completely normal" to make assumptions about people based on speech patterns doesn't mean it's acceptable or rational. For example also "completely normal" for people to associate accents from rural southern areas of the US with ignorance, racism, and incest but that doesn't make it okay - it's a result of how these accents have been portrayed in popular media for generations.

If you find "up talking" or vocal fry or regional dialects or accents to be "annoying" or grounds to make assumptions about the people you're listening to, the problem is f'ing you dude. You need to fix the way you hear people. Nobody is obligated to change the way they speak because your head is filled with ignorant assumptions.

Wait, wait, wait.

Am I to understand you're quoting ChatGPT here? Or worse Google f'ing Gemini the AI that told people to glue ingredients to their pizza?

If that's the game we're playing, here's what ChatGPT had to say when I asked it to discuss the common practice of using speech patterns and vocal habits to make erroneous and ignorant assumptions about people that are not based on any data or research and are just rooted in ignorant and social bias:

I was curious, so I prompted for clarification specifically related to New Zealand accents and "up talking."

As much as I hate to express appreciation for it, your harmful and ignorant assumptions about the New Zealand accent led to some interesting learning opportunities for me. I hope others can benefit as well.

Does the intended vision/gameplay even emerge in current state of the game?

The general statement from various interviews is that they want players to have a variety of skills to deal with multiple scenarios (since now you can theoretically have 10+ 6links)

Over .1 & .2 I had 3 toons over 90, and every time I ended up using 1 or 2 buttons
From the apparent game balance, there is no way to make hybrid skill set do better than dumping all possible stats into one thing

Maybe some other avenues need to be explored, rather than keep making gimmicky skills (that force some dev designed interaction) to force players to use "combos" -- this only makes weak build diversity and skills themselves feel weak

Sure there is we had in poe 1 for a while. It was called slams.
