Introducing the Trade-House Idea (Offline Trading)

How is that any different from the forum one? Its probably going to be set up like that on the forums. Im saying its impossible to have a buyout function as the other player still has to be online accept the trade.

Buyout might be hard yes... possibly impossible.

Anyway there are a lot of reasons why it's different than the forum, as explained in previous posts.

If you still have to log on and check all the offers, due to the inability of putting in a buy-out, then it makes no sense to have an AH. It doesn't make things simpler or easier, it's just creating a whole new system that does the exact same job as the system in place... busy work at best.

I see reading comprehension is at a premium these days.

when in doubt... start attacking others! A true sign of both intelligence and maturity.

1. has to be inside the game, not outside, because the vast majority of users do not go to forums:

They would go on the forums if that's how you got trades done.

2. it has to allow for sorting of offers from highest potential value to lowest... the only mechanism to do this is effectiveness.

You can implement this on the forums as well.

3. it has to allow for filtering for particular types you would be more looking for, again still sorted by highest overall offer

The game will survive without these features, but these go above and beyond what a forum could offer.

Monetary systems were invented to solve exactly this problem, and while currency items solve a particular problem, it obviously creates many other problems.

It doesn't.

And, it is funny how you question others reading ability when there is... 7 pages of telling you why the game doesn't need an AH.

You make assumptions that are not true in practice.

A traditional forum could not support what is needed for trading. You would have to design an additional script to pull offers out of posts to organize, sort, filter them... it also cannot update offer locations by pointer with the same ease (or possibly at all,) as could an in-game system. (leaving dead and dirty offers all over the place)

Finally, a vast majority of people do not use forums and will not come to forums, regardless of whether or not it's the only place to post their items. That's just game demographics for ya.

Forums have severe limitations and the time required to implement a sufficient system on a forum far outweighs the same effort to create a code base.

Not seeing how it would be that hard.

Have a forum category for trading.

Then sub categories for Armor, weapons, amulets, flasks, ect.

Then threads in those categories for different levels and rarities. I think if organized properly it would work.

The code is their already and could be easily make by on the devs. Simply let the users do the rest.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.
With over 15 years of forum use under my belt and many games that have utilized forums for trading, I can tell you from real experience... not just theorycrafting, that while it seems like you could organize trades in a simple forum... you can't.

It leads to

people screaming and spamming about their gear for sale in the game all day long.

a minority of people will actually go to a forum

It's hard or impossible for various combinations of location and free time for people to meet, which to solve requires COD mail and the ability to pull your mail if they don't, AND you must be able to specify an exact item to COD for

users often cannot close their own thread which lingers on and on

pages and pages of forum posts to search through with links required to follow to see what is offered

comparison shopping is nigh impossible

thread bumping is rampant and leads to difficulty seeing what is what

items offered in multiple places are not cleared automatically when traded within the game

There are prolly a dozen other issues forums present :P

Why bump when people can search your item.. When the trades complete for an item its taken off the forum.
