Vaal skills are basically a giant noob trap.

Vaal skills = cannot be used with CoC, cannot be used by totems and traps/mines.
Self-cast buff gogogogo. Would be my guess from a balance perspective. I would also hope the chain effect on the vaal skills is a separate entity so reflect is not returned to the character/player. Maybe every chain originates from the previous cast, making only the first chain reflect and all others not. This would make these gems very good power spells for hard-casters. And be a sort of "silent-nerf" to CoC builds in the process. (no reflect power cast vs mass cast but with reflect?) And for real, why demonstrate these skills in a 6-link searing touch with maxed out set-up. That's just asking for qq :'). Peace -Boem- Edit : i forgot to mention, why does this thread even exist? You can all present your speculation as the new proven facts, doesnt mean that you all pulled it out of your ass. I get it, you guys are bored and need something to do, but this is just dumb. |

I think some vaal skills will be useful. For example those that can shock or freeze the whole screen or provide insane single target damage. Perhaps dual strike, heavy strike, double strike, puncture, frenzy, power siphon is going to be good.

the way i see vaal skills is that they are a means to spice up the otherwise dull leveling process on ones way to say ... level 60+ when people tend to not have full gem slots or perfectly linked gear.
in that regard you can easily use a 4l vaal skill for some extra excitement. Most optional things fall by the way side anyway as one approaches end game. Every char i have made without fail loses about 2 - 5 active skills over their life time as supports make focusing on cores skills more viable. |

That's what i hope, basically.
- Cannot be directly supported ( low socket usage, good for new ring socket slots ) - You can't collect Souls by killing stuff with Vaal Gems ( prevent senseless spamming ) - When activated, they realease an Uber-Version of the skill ( power commensurate to cd ). - Min-Cooldown time ( preventing spamming, especially if overpowered ) - They gain charges based only on stuff YOU kill ( solo players, small parties lover ). - Gets boosted by passive tree and bonuses from items ( for example, a Blender wouldn't benefit from a Vaal Fireball since it doesn't have any spell dmg modifiers. This prevents drastically build changers ). Maybe I was too drastic.. |

" Potions do not require you to get the killing blow to get the charges. You must not have partied since at least release (I'm not sure when the change happened but that is when I started playing again with groups), or you just don't pay much attention. It is extremely obvious now that group kills provide charges. I started noticing when 5 of the people in my group were running with Kaom's primacy and I always got flask charges, when I never had any killing blows. IGN - Jiizanthapus
