[3.10] Sovyn's Lazy Pally - Tanky Templar with Max Block

Thank you Mynio and Sovyn for the tips! I suspected it too, I need to upgrade my rings, helmet, gloves, and chest. I actually have a 6 socket lightning coil, but the sockets aren't linked, but I think I'll just pony up the 120 fusings and pair it with Purity of Lightning. I will also get that flask to deal with my resistance. Seems like I just need to max out my res and get some more healh. Thanks for the direction!
Today's Update:

With Ascendancy coming soon, I've been thinking again.

With Bringer of Rain so cheap now (just bought one for 5 chaos) it may be time to utilize it properly. This item will re-enable use of CWDT immortal call. CWDT - Tempest - Immortal - Duration

Another piece of the puzzle is the new unique jewel, Reckless Defense. No need to overdo it, one will be fine. I think having more than one could make it difficult to not only find several but also the additional critical strikes that you take is reasonable at only 10% more but over that, I don't think so. With one of these plus the usual Stone of Lazhwar and Rainbowstrides that is nearly maxed out spell block. As a side benefit, this jewel, as it has 2% block, reduces the build's jewel socket requirement from 4 to 3, saving a couple skill points.

The final piece of the puzzle is how to make up for the 10K loss of DPS that Bringer of Rain has vs. Abyssus. With some admittedly weak math, I think this tree would do it. Without boring you all with my weak mathematics, there is more physical damage and accuracy while keeping attack speed at least the same if not more.

So the goal is to make the build cheaper overall while improving it.
Love the forward thinking Sovyn!

So, I followed your advice and picked up an Abyssus and 5 linked lightning coil. Got my DPS in the 30k+ range which I'm stoked with. Quick question: Do you suggest to use the lightning coil and Abyssus together due to the 40%~ increased physical damage taken due to the use of the Abyssus and how it's better to convert most of that to lighning damage due to the armour? Reason I ask is because I rocked an Abyssus without the lightning coil and used Herald of Ash instead of Purity of Lightning and the DPS is similar. Just wondering because with my new Coil and Abyssus setup, I have to find better gear to max my res again (it was at max before I made the change.)

Also I just realized that my DPS is higher due to the jewels:

Spoiler

These three jewels are ones I got from quests or found and I just realized they boosted my DPS and I'll lose it when I go for the jewels your recommend :s Oh well, I guess a good defence is better than pure offence.

Thanks.

Lightning Coil and Purity of Lightning and Abyssus pretty much can't be separated, it's all or nothing IMO. You'd take too much physical damage without converting most of it to lightning with the over capped lightning res that the level 20 purity provides. Good block/resist jewels are required but if you are patient you can find resists/block/dps jewels at an affordable cost. I did.
How about i using gladiator in Ascendancy?

Well other than me, you're probably the first.

Glad you are enjoying, let me know if you have any questions.
Holy crap, this guide is really good! Thanks for all the hard work you put into this, I'm following this guide and it's looking good!
Was thinking about giving this build a try with the next league. I wanted to have a build that could build up a quick base for following characters and I'm a little worried this build will be slow.
