If you would think for one second you would realize that slowing down PoE 1 wont make poeple migrate to Poe 2. It will make them leave both. If they wanted to force people to migrate to PoE 2 then they would go with their plan to just make PoE into PoE 2 instead leaving both alive. But you know better, for sure ;)
Also just because for you its "ridiculus amount of money" doesnt mean its not pocket money for somene else.

My Mates Doom and gloom over this believes it a massive NERF.
Loss of enchantments Helm, Boots and gloves.
Loss of quality on Gems for replacement of lesser Enchantments from lab.
Alterative gems GONE.
Mana Res way less now and ashes of star killed.
Having to wait om GMP's
Tried to tell him there more ascendency points and new Gems but how do i explain it.
Tell him he just needs to get good is he one of those guys that doesn't trade or grind then just complains how hard everything is?

Wow, reading most of these comments literally wants me to throw a stick at the players and tell them to pull their heads out. Of course it is overall slight nerfs on almost every skill in the game for those of us who min/max their builds. Only the players who don't actually theory craft somehow think that it isn't.
Now the $100 question is how much are the nerfs? Not much. Was there some QOL improvement? Yes. Will it help early game for most people? Yes. Will the transformed gems give the players something to play around with? Yes.
This should be a good league, it's good to shake things up a bit. But OP is exactly correct about this being a overall DPS nerf for almost everything. But it was mitigated by what I mentioned so all is good.

GGG has over the last year plus stated their every intention is to slow the gameplay down and reduce power of all builds to bring the game in line with how POE2 will play.
Nothing has changed here.
They've just gotten better at making a crap sandwich look more appetizing than it used to.

Good post and totally accurate (although I would call them small nerfs in the grand scheme of things) especially about GGG learning how to make nerfs "sound" like buffs. But, I don't know why us theorycrafters even bother - most players won't listen. Welcome to the world.

Im going to say I don't like the direction this game has headed since right around the time people started talking of ruthless, and slowing people down
all the things that hooked me on this game have been taken out after I started to enjoy them
I loved nemesis and massive HH and eating tons of buffs and you literally cannot do any of that anymore, every single time we the characters get powerful, GGG comes in and removes some of that power
I am not going to continue to build up characters just so that every single year GGG can just randomly decide to destroy them (in Standard at that!) just because GGG as a staff wants me the player to play the game their way
this whole POE2 gem change rammed into POE1 is one of the least well thought out moves ever and Im gonna go ahead and walk from the game because it no longer respects my time as a player. No one was asking to do more lab. No one was asking to have every single gem we spent years acquiring changed with one fell swoop.
EDIT: also all of the mistruths we have been told and all the shadiness, the streamer queues, the massive Alva nerfs that didnt even get into the patch notes, the massive AN mobs that had to be completely removed from POE they were so broken. I just dont feel respected as a player.

While I understand your perspective, but it is GGG's game and the base game is better than ever IMO. I think that the nerfs of 3.23 are not enough to get worried about and GGG had incentive to at least look like they were shaking up the meta to keep the players engaged. They are getting better at sugar coating the nerfs.
Anyway, I try to "big picture" everything and also I try not to hate on my hobby or I will be unhappy (like you are). I'm guessing you are a Standard player and frankly Standard is the devil - the graveyard of hoarders. Play the leagues and be happy....

Most builds definitely lost power this league.
Borrowed power might substitute that though.
New gems will most likely give the rise to new builds that will be completely broken and nerfed next league though.
But overall, old builds probably got nerfed overall at the higher end.

Slowing people down? Dafuq you talking about. In Ancestor league we had acess to the fastest build ever created in PoE history and its not even close.
