Yes, I am quoting my own post but I wanted to add a bit more.

Anyway, GGG has a balancing act of maybe doing events to keep a little momentum in horrible leagues but they run the risk of the event being too good so players will be disappointed in the following league. Given the relatively small development team on POE1 that is the main reason why they will almost certainly not do events and even if they do it will be what I consider to be not fun events.

But really, in a "perfect world" GGG should just do a 30 day Sentinel league and almost everyone would be happy. But that does risk what I mentioned above and that is disappointment with future leagues.

Not sure if you are familiar with the lore of this place, but Kopogero's post history is a treasure trove of anecdotes about how he'd compete and be the best but always finds excuses why he won't bother even trying

Games copy each others, are subject to powercreep, and always have a limited lifetime.
At some point even the most stubborn whales will have to face the sum compared to the result.
