Is this what it means "throwing the towel"?
" Chris Wilson doesn't care about pleasing the majority of the player base, or what not. All he cares about is meeting a profit threshhold. They could piss off 90% of the player base and still meet numbers. He said as much in a old interview. This is part of why they won't get another dime from me. |

And on steamcharts poe is on its way to have the worst month in regards to peak players since july of 2017... But what to expect after this clstrfck of a league?
Personally i see these stats reflected in my friends group, too. A lot of the "dad gamers" gave POE a shot after D4 bad and had fun in Affliction. They quit Necroplis after a week or two because of no fun. And now they seem to have a hell lot of fun in D4 again. I doubt they will check out 3.25. So i am more interested to the see how the player numbers fare next league. |

"steam charts are indicative of playerbase at large, whether its console or standalone client, the current league was bad for retention since it combined all the most disliked features and none of the good ones. Its a crafting league with delayed gratification mechanic that punishes you for not using spreadsheets | |
Why in the world do people feel the need to post pictures of steamcharts and graphs.......with absolutely no context or point?
I can draw pictures too, doesn't add anything to the conversation. Seriously....comparing PoE steamcharts (12 years old) to D4 steamcharts (less than 6 months old) is ridiculous in itself, but also its inaccurate as D4 playerbase has only really gone UP on steam, naturally because its new on steam. Whereas we are at the lowest downturn PoE sees every 3/4 months. Plus, the vast vast VAST majority of D4 plays on Blizzard, like almost 90-95% of the playerbase or more. Whereas PoE steamcharts represents 50-60% Last edited by jsuslak313 on Jun 21, 2024, 8:21:30 AM

I cringe every time someone just dumps a steam chart and says "LOOK AT NUMBAS" without contextualizing them. I'm with jsuslask here, ya'll need to take a class in statistics

The steam charts are funny because to me they only show DIV players on steam have a much higher retention rate and number when compared to POE players on steam.
It doesn't say how many of those players are real people playing their respective games or bots trading or farming things. Or how many players use an alternative launch client. (We know that more people play d4 and poe than the peak on steam, especially if you consider Div's first week sales numbers) Or if those players are having a good time. the concerning number to GGG is the all time peak and the 24hr peak in my opinion. Not assuming anything is real or accurate, but if GGG can't get 10% retention... that is a bad look. That isn't even all league players, standard players are in that pile. Something is going to have to give, if accurate at all. They might have to start making the game different in ways that would piss off some people and please others. It is a delicate balancing act. |

Ah yes the big "meaningful" steam chart and unofficial third party website numbers, always amusing to see that people thing that those numbers equal the actual real numbers hoho
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

" Given the age of the game, the cost to play it, and the emphasis on trading/that other thing we don't talk about, I'd be willing to wager that PoE has a lot more bots than DIV. Like, a lot. But yeah, these charts only tell a part of a story. On the other hand, no one posting here has access to the sort of data that would tell all of it, so I guess y'all work with what you got. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.
