Jonathan's recent interview makes me wonder if GGG might be at odds with itself.

I always love when people take a word, and then just make up what that word means to them. Sure you can do whatever you want, but then doesn't the word lose meaning?

PoE1 is clearly designed, developed, and maintained, with a specific gamer in mind, hell a subset of an arpg gamer in fact. It's literally a niche game by definition.

Oh, like melee?

Spoiler
*drops that grenade and runs like fuck*
https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.
Yes like melee.

totally nothing wrong with melee in poe1. its the best! i wish all games take note of how POE1 handled melee and emulate their success!

Melee is fine, but it certainly is not everyone's bread and butter for sure.
Different gameplay and higher skill ceiling compared to other archetypes is what drives the most crazy lol.
Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.
I'd argue melee is in fact not "fine", but that's not even what was meant.

"Melee" in PoE1 is a mixture of ranged and spell skills, supported with totems, and then sprinkle in some direct strikes. Not exactly what the term normally conveys in most games.

Meh, it is what it is. This has to be one of the oldest debates/disputes/discussion topics in all of PoE's history.

I think that the original post doesn't focus on somewhat simple and fun gameplay which all the great POE leagues have in common.

Maybe I'm different than most POE gamers but I don't think so. I spend money in appreciation of the great leagues and quit very early (for me) on leagues which are tedious and unfun.

I can't say I have loved all of the leagues in the past few years but the base game is very good and there have been enough fun leagues like Sentinel, Crucible and Affliction to keep me pretty happy.

I don't worry about "the vision" or any single change that GGG does, I big picture the game always and just ask myself if I am having a nice time. If you start nit-picking POE you will set yourself up to not be happy with your hobby which sucks.
who's this jonathan bloke everyone talks about.

also, Ben? Who's he.
The entire team (leads anyway) wanted the same outcome of a slower experience.

PoE 2 is the culmination of their vision. Including Chris.

Most likely PoE 1 players won't like PoE 2 and PoE 2 will pick up a new audience. So both games are going to be supported separately.

That's product 101 for those paying attention. It's the difference between Coke Classic and Cherry Coke. You don't change something set in motion more than a decade ago. You iterate and set a new brand. It's the sporty Cadillac and the luxury Cadillac. Not one car.

PoE 2 looks amazing but that's where I reserve my judgement. In reality it will be a lot slower than PoE 1 and probably won't appeal to me beyond an initial playthrough.

lol when happyforevercharan brought up melee he did it just to troll/stoke the fires

i joined in. obviously its not fine. dont get fired up over it.

dont think it ll ever get fixed in poe1 and by the time it finally is fixed (if ever), its more likely i would be playing poe2 or some other game.
