It's not just you, it's a new game and after D3 disaster back in 2012 i'm really careful setting my expectations.

Sure GGG isnt blizzard but recent design decisions in poe1 are making me even more sceptical.
Nothing happened to them.
This isn't the first league to be over 3 months.
Some people like the league, some don't.

Pretty much the same as it has always been.

poe2 is actually pushing poe1 up, with all the new features they're developing for poe2 that are being carried into poe1 is good.

I am not excited for poe2 at all. The gameplay features, trailers, demos, the content they're pushing for it has not appealed to me in the slightest.

My guess, funding and resourcing constraints. Like any IT/Gaming company nowadays, with the sheer volume of games now available at players fingertips and streamers bouncing around, players move around a lot which can limit opportunity. But also one company producing 2x games is tight.
I'm not a fan for 4+ month leagues. I miss the 3 month leagues.
What happened to GGG???

Spoiler
They're still the GOAT.
what happened to GGG?

they re making a new game called POE2. most of the resources are dedicated to POE2.

as of such the recent leagues are really hit or miss.

that said, i would say GGG has ventured into a new territory with temp leagues. previously players could rest assure whatever gear or player power (non crafting materials/keys etc) would carry over to standard.

nowadays we dont know that anymore as ggg could announce the gear would go poof mid/end league.

ggg is no longer meticulously planning out leagues as they did before.

but to give credit to where credit is due, the content in temp leagues can be much more detailed than how it is previously with content coming from poe2 assets.

Correct, some like the league some don't. Just like Affliction, although probably 95% loved Affliction and 5% like Necropolis.

Anyway, although I prefer 3 month leagues there is no doubt such a heavy resource drain because of POE2 that it is predictable. Let's just hope for a good one next month.

Its easy, they are not the original developers, ggg was adquired by other company in 2018 and they only care about making money, numbers, not about player´s experiece, which is sad... I´ve seen this happen to so many former great games and in the end greed just turns an awesome product into commercial garbage, I hope that poe doesnt get that bad but... wow, d4, blizzard? you get the picture
Feel like the 4 month leagues are still 3 month ones.
Usually kinda have to wait for them to fix/balance everything that first one.
